Does the ferry still run Cabo to Mazatlan?

Iflyfish - 11-20-2010 at 04:11 PM

I know that the ferry runs Santa Rosalia to Guaymas, and Mazatlan to La Paz. There used to be a run from Cabo to Mazatlan, does it still run?

Thanks,

Iflyfish

It used to run to Puerto Vallarta... stopped a long time ago... Not sure if it went to Mazatlan, too...

When the government ran it, it didn't have to make sense or money... that kind of thing doesn't last for long... as Europe is discovering, but some in America haven't heard yet!

Nope. No ferries in or out of Cabo. You can cross the SOC to-from Mazatlan through La Paz/ Pichelingue.

Huh?

First off, the Cabo ferry went to Puerto Vallarta. Second, ferries abound all over Europe, whether in the Med, or up in the Baltic. Literally hundreds of ferries all around Europe.

Far as I know, Mexican ferries are/were private enterprise. You need to stop watching Glen Beck.

Nope, the ferry system in the gulf was government subsidized... When that ended, the non-profit routes were abandoned and the prices went up so they weren't a burden on every taxpayer in Mexico.

Bajahowodd - 11-20-2010 at 05:00 PM

Subsidized. Hmmm. Think about it. Sometimes a government actually has to spend money for the good of its people as well as to grow the country's economy. Who exactly paid for the interstate highway system in the US? A project that began under Eisenhower.

Actually, I feel important everyday... don't you?

It is not the same as fealing 'high and mighty' with secret places, and spending other people's money (taxes)!

(edit to correct bad spelling... I am so human :( )

DK- give the shilling for Fox News a rest. You do realize that they don't pay you.

Keep posting about the history of Baja, what you do best. And stop infiltrating so many posts with useless tea party comments. Please. This is not Huffingtonpost.

What is Fox News... the ex-president of Mexico's blog?

Amtrak is a good example for your point. Totally popped up by the US gov't.

I don't care if it is a Socialist, Communist or Oligarchic ferry. They all work. Geesh!

Another ferry option available in Southern Baja that you didn't mention is La Paz-Topolobampo (near Los Mochis), an easy six hours to get to the mainland.

That's the French town down there? Suppose to have a steel constructed Church done by Gustave Eiffel?

Iflyfish - 11-22-2010 at 07:53 AM

Thanks all.

From my web site, July 2007 trip:

Gustave Eiffel (of Paris' Eiffel Tower fame) designed this prefabricated, iron church for the 1889 World's Fair. After the fair, it was shipped to Santa Rosalia and re-assembled.

Deno, I want you to go to Greg Niemann's web page and order 'Baja Legends'
