Fishing Asuncion 11/13 Report

Just got back from 10 days in Baja. We left El Centro on 11/11 and made as far as Coco's Corner where we spent the night. (The road from Huerfanito to Gonzaga is as bad as always.) Coco is a great host.. Coco is doing well, looks good and is getting around as best he can. Unfortunately, for us for us it was cold and the wind was blowing. Coco asked to where we were headed and said Asuncion to fish. He told fishing was not to good there at this time. He was right!!!!!
The next day we were up on our way to Asuncion and were there around 2pm. The plan was to fish with Kalico Loco but we were informed that due to a family emergency he had to go to La Paz. Luis was assigned to be our captain.
For accommodations we rented the house next to Kalico from the Canadians for $ 60 per night. The house was comfortable with all the need amenities...
We were up early and ready to fish on the 13th, weather was cool, clear with a light breeze. Luis did his best to put on the fish around both islands and San Pablo but no luck.
We attempted to fish for Calicos and did manage to snag only 4. Luis did and excellent job of handling the panga near the rocks to fish for calicos but they were just not biting. I would fish with him again and appreciated all his efforts to put us on the fish.
Since the fish were not biting we decided to head back to San Felipe via Gonzaga.. Well about half way to Coco's from Hyw 1 we got a flat. Piece of glass!!!!. Changed the tire and we were on our way again. Camped at Oakie Landing for the night and went after triggers the next day but they were not biting either. It was time to head back to San Felipe.
Wwe made back to my San Felipe house with no problems or flats and fished the following day. This time we had good luck got our fill of corkers and corvina. We had to stop fishing at noon because we had plenty of fish, eventhough the bite was still on. Wednesday we fish for triggers and caught 7, not bad. Thusday, was the Baja 100 found a good safe place to watch it. My son and his team raced a Honda xr 650 but unfortunatly they blew the motor outsdie on LA Bay. Big dissapointment!
Fish in San Felipe on Friday the 19th but it was slow..
This had been one strange year for fishing...

Luis is good and a really nice person to boot! And that house is in one beautiful location!

How was the road from 1 to GB (Coco's)?

Road is good from Coco's to 1... only a couple of very short rough spots.. Road is fast!!!

Timing was just a little off---

It has been that way this year.

Manuel---Kalicos loco just sent me a couple of photos from now- he said there are a lot of yellowtail now, but all in the 20 pound range.



And before you were there, the spear fishermen with him got some bigger ones.



Guess you need to return soon, do some more fishing and enjoy the magnificent views from that house!

welllllll......yesterday anglers pulled in many fish over 20 lbs....guess they must have eaten alot over the last few days:spingrin:

A 13 month old yellowtail will weigh about 15 lbs. under ideal growth conditions. It also cabable of spawning.

I've noticed this phrase is only used by those with a vested, economic interest in the area in question. I once saw a sign in a local fly shop:
"The fishing will improve as soon as you leave":lol:

mcfez.....those are corn fed fish!!!hahahaha and they were caught about a half mile off the cliffs in San Pablo which is a couple bays up from Asuncion...fish seem to be getting bigger day by day.

you can see how close they are to san pablo in this photo...please ignore ron's chiit eating grin!

U2U dtbushpilot and throw down the gauntlet amigo...yep, the Tidepool is swarming with fisher folks these days and adrian is cranking out lobster crunchy rolls...better get him to double his beer order for next week!!!

How about some pics of these hog corbina/corvina? I've had really enticing reports of the sandcrabs, corbina & croaker fishing in the last couple weeks. But it's all talk no pics.

That's where you go out with your partner at night clanging two horseshoes together while he's ready, holding the bag. They're attracted to the sound.

Everyone else is back at camp laughing their heads off.

the guys fishing arent photo types but I personally saw one that wouldnt fit in a normal size cooler...shoulda taken a photo of it...dang...these guys are avid shore fishers and said it was the biggest corvina they ever caught and surfdoc said the same...it's going to be the new secret spot but we may share it with you Igor when you are here...it's a deep drop off right at the shore with a rip tide and the corvina are finning right up at the beach...real cool...juan cant wait to get a day off fishing to go there.
