This morning when we hit the beach there were at least 5 or 6 whales making their way up the Sea of Cortez!
Please forgive my lack of zoom

Forgive my ignorance, please, but what specie is that? I kinda thought that the California Grey didn't migrate South this early.Curt63 - 11-22-2010 at 06:27 PM
Lots of southbound whales off Pescadero last week. Not sure of species, beautiful nonetheless.El Jefe - 11-22-2010 at 06:36 PM
Humpbacks! That is what we see mostly. They have those long flukes that they like to whomp on the water. We saw some too this evening, Judy. Great to
see them back in the hood. We had some great leaps out there with giant splashes.windgrrl - 11-22-2010 at 08:08 PM

And don't forget the blue whales, which also come to the Sea of Cortez--although they're known for being somewhat shy, a marine biologist friend who
studies them once told me.shari - 11-24-2010 at 07:23 AM
there have been more humpback and blue whale sightings this year closer to shore. I wouldnt be surprised to see some gray whales earlier this year
because of the early cold weather up north.bill erhardt - 11-24-2010 at 08:19 AM
I ran into this pair last Friday outside Mag Bay after a long day searching in vain for wahoo, and one saluted as I passed by. I've seen none yet
inside in the estero, but it's still early.
