"Just" trip through Tecate to Cabo

Well. This route was the right decision. Thanks all. Yes there is construction out of Tecate. It was 15.? miles. We drove on a lot of new pavement, and some 'side' of highway dirt & some pavement. It was a cup of tea. Not one rock chip!!! We got lucky. The new pavement is wonderful with the wider lanes. Go for it!!! Construction south of Ensenada was also NO Problem!! Made good time through it. Arrived at Baja Cactus about 4 p.m. to get the last room for the day. San Quintin surprised us with a huge new motel on the west side of the highway about the middle of town. Will check it out going north. Brick red in color. Arrived next day in Loreto. Stayed there for four days. (we have keys to a friends house overlooking Juncalito beach) Terrible stories coming out of Loreto Bay owners who we met at the pool at Loreto Bay Inn. Stuck with having to pay for the completion of their homes after CitiBank went belly up on the project. I was told that Grogan & Butterfield had sold out their interest to CitiBank, who was the one that "stuck" everyone. Not Butterfield/Grogan. Was bad timing for everyone. No one knew the "bubble would burst" including Citibank. Off to Cabo on Monday morning. Lots of construction going down. But wasn't a single bit of a problem. Saw a lot of 'dead' cows along the road. hear that the owner of the Las Flores Hotel in Loreto and his wife hit a cow , and she was so severly hurt, they had to fly her to the mainland?????? Anhyone heard a more descriptive storyf? Something about her not having seatbelts on. Lots of breakins still going on in Nopolo. What's new there?
Did notice as has been reported previously by others, that there are a lot of new bridges in construction .
All in all, the trip down was like most of the other 34 trips we've made in the past. Still a problem with passing freight trucks. They wander over the line. One got so close that wife ended up screaming, because she was able to read the tire pressure printing on the tires, as it approached her window.
Then she couldn't get her breath for the next ten miles. Ended up having her take an asprin. About an hour later she got over it. (needless to say, she's talking about "we're going to fly down next year!!!!!!!!)
Weather decent in Cabo. Maybe getting to 75 high. Cool at nights. Love this Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort two weeks timeshare we have. I'll be 99 years old on the last year it expires.??????? Probablfy won't remember how it went.

windgrrl, you would have no problems towing a 23' RV trailer. I just did it both ways recently in a wide-body 35' motorhome pulling a 19' boat/trailer...and am going to do the route south again today..TJ to Ensenada to Coyote Bay.

I am almost 60' length and 9 ' wide.

When I see a semi coming at me..I fluff my hair stark upright, clench the steering wheel top with both hands, lean way forward, jaws wide-open in a mock scream, and lood wild-eyed at the road ahead. The trucks always..always..give me plenty of room. (Don't try this at home.)

The bad part is...The Baja Road has became tame...and kind of boring without the dangers of yesteryear. The good part is...you get to look at more scenery, instead of the potholes ahead. ;)

So go for it..and enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving.

They knew exactly what would happen. They took their skim and bailed. Citibank is not a developer - they were ostensibly "partnering" with Butterfield and Grogan at the time. And given all the lies since Day One, it is doubtful they ever intended to actually finish the project as touted, rather, was a conduit and smokescreen to enhance their personal bank accounts.

Thank you, so much Pompano. Especially for the strategic approach to semis! I will begin practicing straight away. Actually, I think I will just put the dog in the front seat and I'll lie down in her bed in the back

We are just getting the final touches done. Our biggest challenge now is getting through the Rockies next week before winter slams the door shut again!

windgrrl. If you want to practice getting by oncoming freighttrucks, just hitch up your trailer, and get on the freeway, and pass between trucks that are in their respective lanes. That will be the feeling you will get when you hit the "narrow lanes" part of Hwy 1. (tongue in cheek comment)
I towed a 29' trailer, and my brother a 33' and my cousin a 34' to Loreto years ago. None of us had a problem except for me when I pulled into Mallarimos parking lot, and got too close to a boat on a trailer, and skinned my trailer, breaking a stud, & opening some skin?????? turns out he was a fellow Vagabundo member, and I gave him my address & said, send me the bill. Never heard from him again.???? And if he is a reader here on this site, and reads this, please send me a U2U And when your trip is over. Please give us a report of it. "Happy Trails"

Will report back. We've had a bit of experience of the roads and off-roads in the east cape areas. I always wanted a different trailer layout, but thank goodness we're just 7" wide!:yes:
