Hi Hi Hi, First post, trying this out...
I found some old pics of the Catalina ( San Pedro to Avalon ) I think I remember someone asking about it. There is a couple of the Pirate Ship too.
Wish I was down there, I like seeing the pic,s of the places I go. Bye Bye Bye for now...Bbbob

Welcome to Baja Nomad!

I think the old SS Catalina was dismantled... Photos were posted on Nomad. The host of this site was a supporter of the save the Catalina project. Use the Nomad search to find those older posts on it.

I saw somethimg on TV about this awhile ago. It showed the boat, half sunk, in Ensanada.

Forget the boat. The last slide is a shot of Anthony's. Now...there's a landmark to remember.
Welcome to BajaNomad, bbbob.

I read an article that the costs to save / move / restore the ship were too great an obstacle to overcome. The idea of a floating restaurant is enticing but you can buy a similar ship sitting unused, docked with a For Sale sign somewhere and convert it over for a fraction of the price these days...

I worked around LA Harbor 57-62 and often watched the Big White Ship head out from Wilmington toward Avalon. Could have set my watch by it's departure. There used to be PE red cars that went right to the dock so people could come down for the trip, step off the Red Car, walk across the dock and right on to the ship. Great days.

Correct, the Great White Steamer was dismantled beginning in December, 2008. Here's a forum thread about it:

Image below is one of the cowl vents that was saved and restored - and is now sitting in the yard of a home in Ensenada.
