How to identify FAKE cigars!!

This is in response to the "Cigars in La Paz" thread. But, I thought this deserved a new thread on the subject of identifying FAKE cigars. This is an outstanding link from Cigar Aficionado magazine, with great images, on how to identify the real thing!! Just click on the brand and look at the results. The key to making the correct idenity is looking at the details of the LABEL! I love this web site.

It's all about knowing how to identify the REAL labels!

Fake labels

We're not talking about printing money. Accurate, forged labels are easily printed. I've seen 'em. Everything from cigars to prescription drugs to Tequila. The only way to guarantee the genuine article is to buy from a reputable dealer.

And...If you're offered a bargain it's guaranteed fake. Volume discounts or inventory reduction sales aren't part of Mexican economics.

NO such thing a cheap Cuban cigars...Even in Cuba.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that some enterprising entrepreneur hasn't figured out how to scam Tecate.

BTW, I have a source for obscenely cheap artisan Tequila. A great Christmas gift for all your, um....friends.

Fake Cigars

Most Cuban cigars seen in Mexico are fakes. This is especially true if they are trying to sell them to you on the streets. While looking at labels will help at times, it is definitely not a catch all to be relied upon.

There are many things to look at in a fine cigar. One being the quality of the roll and the and leaf of the cigar. Look at the way the sellers stores the cigars. If they are out on the counter in a plastic tray, in the FULL sun, you probably are not looking at the real deal. Fine cigars (more so with Cuban cigars) are to be treated with respect, usually stored in a nice wood room with humidifier.

If going to Mexico and you enjoy good cigars, bring some with you. If you are lucky and do find what you think is a REAL Cuban cigar, buy one, smoke it and see what you think. Always expect to pay at least $15 to $20 per for the real deal.

My best advice? Smoke um and see if you like them. Some people don't even like real Cuban cigars and would prefer a cigar with different tobacco from a differnt country.

But, there are still some bargains to be had out there for the smart shopper. For instance, you can buy a solid gold Rolex for 25 bucks out at the Bufadora Mall. I have one. It's even been upgraded with a Quartz movement.

Don't mention this to just anybody. I'm thinking of making a major investment.

I think I paid so much more for the authentic Swiss Quartz movement. Not all Rolexes have that, ya know.

Is that how to pluralize Rolex...Rolexes, or is it Rolexs? I'd best learn pretty soon. I plan on buying a few thousand of them. I'm gonna be rich.
