wi-fi booster antenna

absinvestor - 12-15-2010 at 12:24 AM

Does anyone have experience using the wi-fi antenna booster that sometimes advertises on this site ie www.betterwifirange.com? Last year when we camped at Daggetts in Bahia de Los Angeles we received a weak wi-fi signal. There was a gal that climbed on the roof and got a pretty good signal. In more than one campground in Baja we needed to take the laptop out of the motorhome to get a good internet connection so if the booster works we'll purchase it. Thanks Ron

Ron,
I am currently checking into at wi-fi antenna for our house just south of Casa Diaz in BOLA. We are trying to get onto the "Cirrios" site. Fifteen people in town are now using this system which receives its signal from a tower near the San Juan Mine.

I will know more in a week or so.

Check-out this company:

There's a cell tower near the San Juan mine??? WOW!!

Oggie - 12-15-2010 at 09:25 AM

DK,

It was put up there about a year ago by helicopter. I think the CFE office in town uses it as well as Rancho San Gregorio with Internet and phone.

Wow... really cool using a helicopter. Did you hear the story how Capt. Muņoz landing his plane at San Juan back in the 60's? No runway there... just a straight piece of road or clearing. :wow:

PG&E was setting power lines, towers and pulling cable with helicopters 50 years ago.

I thought this was about Wi-Fi, not 3G cellular internet?

Not in the wilds of central Baja Califronia...

I think the signal from the tower at San Juan is 3G and in town they distribute it by Wi-Fi.

Love to hear what you have to say in a week.

I think Doc knows about the system. I am going to try and talk with him this week.

absinvestor - 12-15-2010 at 10:29 AM

Oggie- thanks and let me know what you find out. I did email the company that advertises on this site ie betterwifirange and I did get a quick response saying that people that have purchased are happy etc. (Of course I wouldn't expect him to say it doesn't work!!) Ron

That is a pretty amazing story. I had lunch at Mallarimmo's at Farnciscos table last week.

Just a little bump for those who have not seen this yet

Check out the Rogue Wave antenna system. It's not cheap:O at about $300.00 U.S. but it picks up wifis as far as 10 miles!:bounce:

http://www.wavewifi.com

I have it on my RV and it picks up a Starbucks that is 8 miles away (the RV is in Orange County). It also picks up dozens of personal wifis (locked and unlocked) in the area. The antenna is mounted on my batwing antenna with hose clamps. This way the antenna is lowered for traveling.:light:

Hey Oggie....I've got a house in Casa Diaz and would be interested to see what you find out...The signal for Cirrios is a little weak, but I can pick it up. It's a protected signal..How do the 15 people you know about access it...some fee for an access code?? Thanks for any info. I'll be in town after Christmas for a little while.

Gracias!
HT
