Got this bad boy in New Hogan today - love stripper fishing in this lake, just like chasing boils in the SOC, well, maybe not 'just like' but lotsa fun.

Hook - you got me - took me about 5 minutes to figure it out. I've never gone stripper fishing before - what's the preferred bait? Dead presidents, no doubt.
Denny: yes, he swam away. I'm a cast, cast, cast, cast ad infinitum for hours, catch, then release, then repeat all damn day. Occasionally stop for a coffee, water, beer. All day, baby.:coolup:

Thanks for the tip, Santiago. I didn't even know that lake had stripers. I've heard that November is a good time for them in the delta.

Were you using Clouser minnows? What size?

Have you ever fished the Naciemento narrows? That will be coming up in a few months.

Guess I've been using the wrong bait for strippers lately, haven't had much luck. I'll try dead presidents next time, thanks for the tip Santiago.

I caught a nice pargo yesterday, filet and release. We had a lovely dinner together:lol::lol:....dt

Fished those foothill lakes for many years. New Hogan, Amador, Comanche, etc. Never got anything but rainbows and small and large mouth bass. Trout were mainly plants. Stripers must be also and fairly recent.
Caught many a striper in the Delta though, mainly around Sacramento. Dead, smelly sardines or crawdads for bait.

Conventional - probably be tough fly fishing this time of year. Fall would be best as they really do boil on the shad - Clousers would be fine. The shad are smallish, 2-3". White swim baits are good, the bass guys tend to use them.
Yes, I have fished the narrows in Naciemento in the winter - the white bass can be crazy good, but it's been 15 years. Maybe the Morrow Bay gang can give you an update.
