Ensenada Seafood Resturants

lwpa - 12-22-2010 at 05:35 PM

We will be visiting Ensenada in Mid Feb. Does anyone know where they serve breaded abalone. Years ago, we went to La Cueva de Los Tigres just south of Ensenada and that was their speciality. Is it still there? We also liked Mariscos de Ensenada, downtown, but they didn't have abalone, but the other seafood was excellant.

Haliotis in Ensenada

Takes great pride in its seafood offerings and they promote serving abalone.

Torn down years ago.
Follow Jan's suggestion for Haliotis. They are time-tested as excellent.

1. Barra Azul (no abalone but the food is divine)
2. Muelle 3 (again, no abalone, but excellent food)
3. Cocedora de Langosta, abalone likely but it's seasonal, otherwise it comes out of a can (same at Haliotis).

The above 3 restaurants are new, use fresh local ingredients, and have creative and fun menus. Haliotis hasn't changed a thing on their menu since they opened their doors.

Just my opinion...

There's a season on Obliterated Species? When is it?

That was 1976. I'd say their trial period has passed.

Can someone give general directions to these three places plus Haliotis?

Barra Azul in on 13th St about 2 blocks west of Espinoza.

Muelle 3 is on the Malecon (such as it is), north of the Fish Market.

Cocedora de Langosta is on the same road as the Fish Market, but before you get to the Fish Market...between the Proturismo office and the Fish Market, same side of the street.

Haliotis....so you know were the Office Depot/Soriana shopping center is? You come up that street and would turn right to continue south on Reforma/Transpeninsular? Instead of making that right, go straight and it's about 3 blocks further on your left.

I had abulon at Manzanilla in Ensenada last month. Near the migration at the port.

Muelle Tres is owned by the same chef as Manzanilla.

Be sure and grab a mint on the way out.... you wouldn't want a case of halitosis from haliotis, would you ?

So Gypsy Jan, Did you actually eat at Haliotis after your post asking for restaurants offering Abulon? If so I would like to get your opinion of the food and service, etc. And to lwpa, who posted this, if you are staying in Ensenada, just get a cab, cost 5 bucks. If you don't know your way around like a local, it's totally worth it(and safer!)
