Looks like definite footpaths and possible dirt roads to and around the caves. So not totally "unknown".

Ok, tried saving the image...

spin to the other side and changethe viewing angle from staright above, you will see that it appears to be overhangs at the top of a hill.

Sometimes looking at a site with Virtual Earth (Bing) one is able to see different details. Usually the shadows will fall differently, giving a different perspective on a scene. Also sometimes newer data.

I find it hard to believe that David K. has not visited these caves. In fact, I find it hard to believe he has not visited, spelunked and photographed these caves. In fact, those are the legendary Cuevas de David K.

Mystery solved.

The road is from Mulege to La Ballena following Arroyo San Raymundo. I've only been on the road once but I don't remember any large caves near the road.

Odd shapes and roads

Two odd shapes on the road. In fact , the road has a odd path. Any remarks about this?

Looks like a typical 'switchback' to climb a steep mountainside... ?

TMW - 12-27-2010 at 10:03 AM

I think it is too, switchbacks. The hurricanes a couple of years back dumped a lot of water in the area and probably messed up the road pretty good. I'm guessing that's why the two roads down to the ranch.

Just giving you props David K. Every time my co-pilot and I pass a suspect clumping of rocks anywhere in Baja, we immediately say, "I bet David K. could identify which mission this is."

Thanks Amigo!

I made the mission info web pages so everyone can learn about the TRUE first California missions... In Baja long before San Diego was founded!

See: http://vivabaja.com/bajamissions for every true mission location, years established, locations, satellite images, and several visitas too!

Just the Jesuit missions (1600's to 1768): http://vivabaja.com/missions1

All the missions after 1768: http://vivabaja.com/missions2

Many mission visitas: http://vivabaja.com/missions3

Links also to the Camino Real location.

Caves?

tehag - 12-27-2010 at 04:24 PM

Couldn't reconcile the 2 shots so I took screen shots and flipped them. The lower views with the shadows revealed as overhangs makes more sense to me. In the top ones the deep canyon/arroyo appears to be the high ground. How the images both came from Google is what puzzles me now.
