Mulege Help

yellowklr - 12-29-2010 at 08:22 PM

Well I've traveled a lot of Baja but this will be my first trip to Mulege.

I'd like to get some advice where to eat, drink, and people watch?
I'll be arriving on New Years day
Hope to meet some nomads while I'm there

After drinking at El Candil do not exit through the open archways because they are windows up off of the sidewalk and it's a nasty drop. They are not doorways. I take this little note along with me.:lol::lol:

Seems every trip the entrance has been re-routed because of storms or the tides. In September the road just in front had washed away blocking the way to the lighthouse and marina.

A few years back we pulled up a Humbolt Squid (nasty looking beast). We took its mantle to Lily. She had the kitchen pound away on it and served it up with butter and garlic. Love the place!

your landlord, max, will be able to fill you in on all the places to go...scotties el candil and the "shack" under the bridge are certainly fine places to hang out and eat..visit us if you get the chance; just ask anyone where we live..

yellowklr - 12-30-2010 at 08:29 AM

Keep em coming and thanks so much for all the info.

a good place to enjoy some cerveza in the evening?

mulegemichael - 12-30-2010 at 08:33 AM

refer to my previous post; both places great for sipping and people watching

David K - 12-30-2010 at 08:39 AM

What about Ray's?

"shack" under the bridge

mcfez - 12-30-2010 at 08:47 AM

This sounds very "Baja" :-)

Anyone with a picture of this place?

mulegejim - 12-30-2010 at 08:59 AM

Los Equipales in town is very good.

The Jungle just southof town on the river is a fun spot to hang out - many locals - opens about 2:30 in the afternoon. Closed Sundays

Rays Place in the valley - excellent - try to arrive in time to enjoy the sunset befind the mountains. Check around for what days he is open.

Doneys in town - very good breakfast, lunch and dinner. Closed Tuesdays.

Carnitas on Saturday at what used to be Danny's in town.

There are many others just ask around - everybody has a favorite or two.

Serinidad on south end of town next to airstrip has pig roast every friday night:

El Patron

tripledigitken - 12-30-2010 at 09:25 AM

One of our Baja favorites! Seafood is their specialty. Your feet are in the sand just feet from the Sea of Cortez, perfect! A bit of a challenge to find but worth the effort.

It is at the end of the road that parallels the river on the north side out towards the Lighthouse.

Are there any free wifi hotspots in town or in the area surrounding Mulege?

You can sit in Equipales Restaurant and hookup. Just sip some coffee, or a beer. Right across the street is a site with computers and wifi. He charges 8 pesos for 20 minutes.

If you are staying at Maxx's then you are less than a stumble from Pancho Villa or El Patron. Good eats and drinks at both. Hang out at the square in town for people watching. That will get old quick but you aren't far from El Candil (Scottie's) at that point.

willyAirstream - 12-30-2010 at 11:56 AM

Free internet at the "Shack" under the bridge, and at a couple of internet cafes for a small fee. People watching - the village square or the shack or Scotties. Sundays, get the bar b q chicken under the bridge at the taco stand near the water supplier. Fri and Sat get the goat at the tope taco stand just south of town, by the 2 stores.
