Mexacali immigration

Kencito - 1-4-2011 at 01:00 PM

It always takes me longer than anticipated to pack and leave town then I had hoped. Now it looks like I'll be crossing this Saturday.
Anybody know if you can get a torurist visa in Mexacali on Saturdays? Willl a bank be open?
I've never gone south via San felipe and thought I'd give it a go before it's paved the whole way.
Any info on mexacali is appreciated.

There are 2 crossings that you can take in Mexicali. East or NEW crossing or West or Old Crossing.

I come in from AZ and normally cross at the east gate and you can get your visa on most any day. I have an FM2 and I had to get it stamped the last time I came in on Dec 26, a Sunday, and they were there to help me.

Hope that helps

I cross at the Old Calexico West Crossing, Mex
Immigration is 150 ' to the left as you enter
Mex. Parking for the Immigration office is limited
at best, there is 1 space in front of Mex Imm,
labeled Imm Personel, I take this to mean employees,
although I have parked there. The closest curbs
painted green for parking, are some 5 blks into
Mexicalli. I can't answer as to whether a teller is
available on Sat.,. I'm going to guess no, but that
is just a guess. They will issue you an fmm,
with the stipulation you pay the $22 at a bank
within 5 days or so. I have read of travellers
paying at Bancomer/banamex in San Felipe,
I assume your fmm is not valid until you have a reciept
from bank showing you paid the $22.
I would have a valid fmm to go past San felipe.
A few months back, someone reported getting and paying
for an fmm at the san felipe airport, sounds odd.
You can't get an fmm at the San Felipe Immigration office,
yrs. back you could not now
If there is no one to pay at the border, it appears
one would have to wait till Mon. for a bank in SF
The 6nt/7 day fmm is free

The bank at Mexicali East Crossing is open on Saturday but they only take pesos.
