54' Hatteras-fire sale!

tammi72 - 1-6-2011 at 11:59 AM

54' Hatteras for sale. Docked in San Carlos, Sonora. My father purchased the boat in Cabo San Lucas in October 2008 for $500,000. He passed away in October, now we must sale!

Asking $350,000. It is posted on Yachtworld.com

Brian L - 1-6-2011 at 12:07 PM

$350K? Sounds like a piece of junk. I'll pass. I won't spend less than $1million on my yachts...

Sorry, couldn't help. I suppose there may be some folks here that seriously consider it...

Wow, nice boat!

I'll give you 350,000 pesos?

and I'll post the link: Nice Boat

Barry A. - 1-6-2011 at 12:33 PM

Tammi----------tho it is too rich for my blood, and the boat is huge, for that boat that is a very reasonable price. (54 footer)

I do hope you are able to sell it.

Thanks for posting.

I have to remember not to argue with idiots.........

Tammi,

Good luck with your sale....that's why I posted a link........and remember to keep your sense of humor since most of us that have lost our parents have managed to smile and keep on keepin' on.....

And my offer is good.....it's all I can afford......

Curt63 - 1-6-2011 at 01:52 PM

I'm an idiot?

tammi72 - 1-6-2011 at 02:04 PM

You guys are a kick... and I thought our board was brutal. lol (vivasancarlos.com) Curt63, thanks for having my back and being sensative. But I do have a sense of humor even in bad times, thank God for giving us laughter.

Yeah, I agree.. too rich for my blood too...hence the sale. But for those crazies who don't know the "Three F Rule" this is one hell of a deal. Not only did my dad buy it for $500k but 6 months later rebuilt both motors for another $30k. "new" motors have about 300 hours on them. It has 3 staterooms, 2 heads, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, grill, 2 detroit v1296 motors with 1100 hp each, and a super cool dinghy with a 50 hp motor (this is actually the only boat I can afford), everything works... with some slight exceptions. Like all boats. (have all documentation for rebuild)

I wish i had time to sell if for what it is worth... but as anyone who owns a boat that big knows.. maintenance (captain, slip fee, oil changes, insurance, etc etc) is expensive.

would love to give someone a smokin' deal!!!

tammi72 - 1-6-2011 at 02:05 PM

Oh and thanks for the link Sweetwater! needed to add that.

Wow, you are kinda RUDE, especially under the circumstances. Maybe you should have kept your response to yourself.

Pompano - 1-6-2011 at 02:22 PM

Sorry for the loss of your father.

I know this may not be within your power, tammi72, but the Caribbean is a much better location to sell your 54" Hattie. Lots more buyers around from Europe and some from US, too.

Could you manage/arrange a voyage through the Panama Canal? Lots of delivery captains for hire out there. Delivery to a yacht broker in any number of good ports in the Carib.

Barring that, you should research all the boat/yacht brokers in San Diego..if you have not done that already. There are many in Shelter Island alone.

Also many interent sites selling this size yachts...just Google and pick a few.

Good luck with the sale..your late father's Hatteras is one fine yacht.

tammi72 - 1-6-2011 at 02:28 PM

Pompano,
Thanks, but yes did think of those things. Actually statistically on "Yachtworld" (largest multiple listing for yachts, worlwide) the majority of this type of boat were sold on the East Coast of US. My broker here in San Carlos actually came from San Diego and has been trying to solicite all his old contacts and other brokers. Very happy to share his 10% commission.

Have actually thought of taking it further south as well. The cost is pretty high, already struggling with the general mainenance costs. The fuel alone would be outrageous. These motors are huge and have a lot of power.. but at a significant expense.

No worries about me everyone, I'm not offended. I will always take the high road and assume they were meaning in good fun.

Pompano - 1-6-2011 at 02:33 PM

Right on, tammie...If you could get that Hattie to Jupiter Island, Florida..it would sell fast at that price, I expect.

tammi72 - 1-6-2011 at 02:36 PM

Oh and thanks to everyone for the kind words about my dad.

He too had a great sense of humor... the best really. He would have laughed at the $350,000 pesos comment.

Von - 1-6-2011 at 02:43 PM

May be one day :D but for now i must go to work lol!

Brian L - 1-6-2011 at 03:10 PM

Sorry if I came across rude, wasn't my intention, I honestly didn't see the father passing part when I first read it.

Glad Tammi and her deceased father have/had senses of humors.

I've been through much worse Curt63, so don't judge, calm down...

wessongroup - 1-6-2011 at 03:14 PM

sorry for your loss... hope your dad was able to use .... best luck on the sale..

How to sell your boat...

Dave - 1-6-2011 at 03:34 PM

Pomp is right about location but you don't need to transport the vessel prior to sale. I have purchased and sold boats through Yachtworld and the key is finding the proper broker. There are specialists that only sell power of a certain type...even those who only sell a certain brand.

Find the right broker by using the advanced search function to find brokers who specialize in like type of craft.

sorry for your lost,, I know its very hard,, I lost both parents this last 2 years.

I agree with Pampano about a Yacht Brokers.
I worked for 2 brokers in San Diego , one on Shelter Island and the last one on Harbor Island.

I would like for you to consider 2 Yacht Brokers in San Diego that I think could help you, as both have a National and world wide persence and deal in upper end boats and customers.

1. Crows Nest Yachts , they are on Shelter Island in San diego 619-222-112
they deal in high end sport fishing boats and would be able to market your boat world wide and they have a big customer base as they have been in the business for years, again dealing with High networth people.

2. Fraser Yachts Worldwide, again on Shelter Island 866-343-2706 or 619-225-0588, and again they only deal with High networth clients

few more things to consider.

I dont know if your living on the boat at this time, if not you might want to consider doing this, things have a way of going missing if your not there with it.

a boat like this must also be keep in Bristol shape at all times. do you have a dive service that keeps the hull clean, when we had our boat we had a service come down about 3 times a month.

alot of sales for a boat like this , you may never see the buyer. it would be handled thru the Broker and a Marine Surveyor. but that doesnt mean that the buyers wont come and see it, just keep the boat as bristol as you can and be ready for a sea trial at any time

tammi72 - 1-6-2011 at 04:55 PM

thanks for the advice desertcpl. I will contact those people. I have a full time captain that maintains the boat, new zincs, oil changes, daily cleaning, etc. But yes, always worried about theft.

Happens everywhere.

desertcpl - 1-6-2011 at 05:10 PM

good luck with selling your Boat, looks like you got a handle on things. but again a good Yacht broker should be your first concern at this time, and dont be so quick in lowering your price just yet,, get ahold of the Broker and let him give you an idea about what you should list it for and have him give you some comparables

Brian,

I want to acknowledge your apology, very nice one. I sometimes come across in the wrong way also, but appreciate it when someone calls me on it so I can work on my tact. I know that I scan the notes and miss things so, as they say, we are only human after all!!

LancairDriver - 1-7-2011 at 01:36 PM

Tammi72- Best of luck selling your boat in the present economy. You have a good broker that has done a very good presentation of the boat. You can be sure that anyone looking for that kind of boat will have seen yours. I have been trying to sell a 50' Bayliner for more than a year now and have had no success at all....not even low ball offers. It's a function of the economy. Just have to hang in there and ride it out. Even the high rollers aren't spending their money.

capt. mike - 1-8-2011 at 08:39 AM

my good buddy with means and who also is a shrewed buyer with lots of toys - has owned over a 100 planes in 30 some years from turbine twins to turbo'd hi-perf singles - and flown baja since Ed Tabor started [used to fly for him actually]
well he has followed a particular 50' class motor trawler since it was in Miami 2 yrs ago - actually went to look at it. At the time he/seller was asking mid 300s i think.
no action - he paid to have it sent to La Paz where again it listed ultimately below 200, finally it went to San Carlos and last summer it was down to 80 or so fricking thousand! chump change for a boat of its class.

nothing is selling close to values pre recession 2007.
buyers market pure and simple.

lizard lips - 2-20-2011 at 11:13 AM

I know Tammi personally and she is a great person with a big heart.

I appreciate all of your guidance and support for her. I hope she and her sisters sell the yacht soon. I have seen it in San Carlos recently and it looks like new.

Good luck Tammi!

captkw - 2-20-2011 at 09:09 PM

HOLA, I'm late to this thread and a little buzzed, but I can tell you the market for this boat would be better toward's florida or the east coast,,,,,,,and maybe costa rico,,,,,,not down here in baja that's for shure !!!!

dirtydieseldave - 2-21-2011 at 12:51 AM

how long has it been on the market? More than six weeks raise the the price.

captkw - 2-21-2011 at 07:22 AM

I got to live on a 54 hatt in acpulco around 1980 for a few month,s...nice boat !! you might place a add in yachting. it's for upper class boat's like your's and the market is very soft right now!! I also would look around the web and find one of the internatal yacht site's,,seem's that all the money is in the u.k. and asia,,not around here that's for sure!!!wish you the best......out
