Las Tres Virgenes, La Paz

BajaNomad - 1-9-2011 at 04:24 AM

We were looking forward to the chance to dine at Nomad JESSE's restaurant Las Tres Virgenes again this time in La Paz, and had a very rewarding and pleasurable time there on the night of Dec 29th. Jesse was not aware we were coming, and when he saw us at our table, asked one of the staff to come inquire with us when the heck we were going to say hello to him.

:)

What we ended up ordering were:
- Pizza with pepperoni & prosciutto (?).
- Rose petal quesadilla.
- Seared yellow fin tuna and avocado appetizer.
- Caprese salad.

Ryland and Michelle both found the pizza to be quite notable. Michelle said she wanted to mail-order these pizzas from Jesse to have at home. Pretty high praise coming from her.

The quesadilla comes with a strawberry sauce that both Michelle and Ryland gave a thumbs-up on.

The caprese salad was recommended by Jesse, and did not disappoint. A nice heirloom tomato with white cheese, and fragrant and flavorful basil, on top of an impressive pesto sauce.

The yellow fin was exceptional. Interesting with this was the slice of serrano chile on each. I'm a fan of serranos and jalapeņos - and this was one of the spiciest serrano chiles I can recall.

The rest of the night and the next day, Ryland and Michelle were talking about the pizza, and I was commenting on the yellow fin...

While tourism might be down overall for businesses in La Paz, Las Tres Virgenes was certainly busy on this evening. We saw other restaurants we'd also been to before that were absolutely empty on this trip. Wow.

Enjoyed our time there immensely. Thanks Jesse for spending some time out at our table to chat. Appreciated catching up with you a little. Best wishes for your continued success. Hope the upcoming elections turn out to be positive for BCS.

The pizza Michelle and Ryland woudn't stop talking about. Is it because of a "special sauce" or what? Inquiring minds (including me) want to know...

I will have to concur, the food is great and Jesse is a fine, friendly host.I have eaten like a king there twice, and look forward to my next visit. The only problem is his food makes mine seem like McDonalds in comparison, and I thought I was a pretty good cook!

Awesome... I sure would love to take Baja Angel to La Paz... and the photos make it more of an urgency! LOL:light:

Glad you took pictures of Jesse... I may not have recognized him since we were all together last at jrbaja's (in 2004)!

Yep, Jesse and Las Tres Virgenes is upscale Baja dining. We had shrimp and risotto and Lobster. Just delicious and a very nice presentation.

Thanks for the photos Curt! Great to finally see the place from the outside, too!

The last foto of Jesse I saw, he had a head-full of hair.
Man.....That restaurant business is tough.

Actually, that first foto was up at JR's place..La Barca. Is that right, David? I think it's your shot.

OOOPS...I see you mentioned that day. Oh, well....show us the shot of Jesse with hair anyway.

I thought you had another shot of Jesse talking to, I think, JR.
Oh, well....I'm probably having halucinations.
I think it's time for a cold one.

Left to Right: jrbaja, David K, Baja Bernie, Antionio Sr. and his son: BajaCactus

The following two have not been published before:

Jesse joins us with his plate and it looks like he is talking to jrbaja.

That is all I have of Jesse...

We went to his Tijuana restaurant for Sunday Brunch a couple years later, but it was the one day he was off. They got him on the phone and I talked to him. I was with Elizabrth, Antonio, Lorenia, and two of their friends.

DENNIS - 1-9-2011 at 01:09 PM

OK....Thanks. I'll adjust my dosages.

Bajahowodd - 1-9-2011 at 04:46 PM

Funny thing is that when we've dined at Jesse's, he's always worn a cap, and never seemed to venture into the kitchen! Closest thing to cheffing was to poke around with the mesquite fire.

I believe the address is:

Calle Madero #1130, La Paz, BCS

It's next to an Aramburo Market.

Bajahowodd - 1-24-2011 at 05:06 PM

Best landmark: Aramburo next door, for some unknown reason, has a cow on their roof. Not a live one. You cannot miss that, And Jesse's is right next door.
