Windscorpion...

bigzaggin - 1-11-2011 at 12:19 PM

25 years or so of Baja trips and somehow never saw one of these until this past week. I've heard they can bite but no venom. Anyone ever been stung/bit/P-nched?

I've heard that it is a painful bite but not deadly. They will chase you though.

Ugly, fast, scary, no venom; harmless - like me!

Many threads on these here - referred to as wind scorpions, whip scorpions, sun spiders, camel spiders, and mata venado.

we've seen one at the edge of the bluffs. it soon after took it's first swimming lesson.

They are nocturnal so best way to see them is to look around lights at night. They will come in to munch on the bugs that are attracted to the lights. Like earlier posts said they are harmless unless you try to pick one up bare handed. Then you might get a bite but no venom. :D

Aren't they cool. I read in my bug book that they paralyze their prey by gassing them! I know humans who can do that too!
