A Day in the 'Hood' of Mulege

Pompano - 1-12-2011 at 06:39 PM

I had these photos in a special folder marked Day Trip to Mulege..taken in early December, 2010. I think it is time to post them before they become history...or I forget what I did that day.

So, without further ado or babbling..here they are..in some sort of order.

Start of Day trip..Coyote Bay...it was cleaning day and a sign that I should disappear.

Part of my regular scenic drive to Mulege..a short 17 miles.

volleyball at Bertha's..Burros Beach

I usually take the short cut into the downtown area by going under the highway bridge. I hate speed bumps...

The Jungle is deserted...for now. Maybe later on during.. 'Drink till you fall down hour'. I have given up the grape for my diet, so could care less.

I opt instead for one of these diet cookies.

..and of course, Demos famous diet tacos. I'll have my usual 3-taco diet special, por favor.

Then down to Dannys (Antonio's) for some diet carnitas dessert.

And, for that perfect cappacinno...the new Palapa cafe on the highway near Saul's old place..run by Josefina and Hugo..nice people.

I cruise by the zocolo..downtown square..and spot my old amigo, taxi driver, Nacho.

He's a good amigo, and a fine mechanic, too. Helping me out with some maintenance..

Well, the day is still young..what to do next?

How about a haircut by Denise..that's always a nice time.

Before:

After:

I walked up the second floor of Alba's Supermarket in the square to take these shots from above the street. Now a dental office, (a good one, not the one I used), I used to date a schoolteacher who lived in that apartment about 35 years ago..gawd, where has the time gone???

..aerial view of the basketball court downtown..

Okay, enough town time...ready to head back to the Bay..and dodge all the joggers and walkers who think the highway is a good excercise path.

It's a poker day, so time to stop at Santispac, get the tires watered... and play some Texas Hold-em.

Zulema stops by to say Hello..and the cafe pooch, Tigre, goes bananas renewing an old friendship with her.

Wonder of wonders, I win a few pesos.....hey, now I can pay some of my bar bill.

Rounding out the day, we go to my place and play some 8-ball, drink some diet Pacificos..and finally call it...A DAY.

TH..TH..TH...THATS' ALL FOLKS!

Buonanotte, tesoro...I am coming.

Pomp......A day in the life.......
Glad to see that Josefina and Hugo are still around. When I was in Mulege on my first trip south after retiring in 2002 they had a little restaurant by the Pemex. Computers, real estate, and now back in a restaurant. The Palapa cafe is definitely worth a stop if they are running it.
