My Trip is on Hold

I was going to be leaving Salt Lake City for the East Cape yesterday morning around 9 am, but at 4 am the phone rang and we got the news that my father-in-law had had a stroke. It was his second one, the first of which forced me to cancel my Baja plans two years ago. I made it down last year and was looking forward to 2 months in Baja this year but, it's all up in the air now.

We need to have him fully evaluated and get him settled into whatever care facility is recommended before I can think about leaving. I am not unpacking my truck (except for the food that will freeze), so I am hoping for the best.

The good news is that I didn't get all the way down there and just have to turn around and come home.

I am sorry your father in law is having such difficulties. We hope he recovers soon and remains healthy for years to come.

Sometimes we can't follow through with travel plans when circumstances dictate otherwise. Hopefully all will be well soon and, when the time is right, you will get your trip to Baja. And when you do, you will enjoy it to the fullest.

Well, you see the good part. You were not just on your way.
Last year we arrived on the 10th to hearon the 17th that our daughter in-law had suddenly passed away. Back to Canada in a week.

Rich, Sorry to hear about your Father-in-law and the delay in your travel plans. I hope that everything works out the best that it can. Come down to Baja when you can. It is a great place to relax and get away from the stresses and worries of our lives. Each time I cross the border into Baja I feel the weight of the world lifted from my shoulders. Good Luck.

Bajarich, my sympathies. My dad passed away with a stroke twenty three years ago. I was deep in Mexico when I got word. I jacked up and removed the camper and drove off and raced northward. It is winter and I hit a 70 mph headwind near Tucson and fought it all the way to Las Vegas. I arrived two days too late. Sometimes you just can't win amigo.

Thanks to all of you for your sympathy. My father-in-law is stable, but it looks like he may not be able to live independently anymore. He is 89 years old and has been active most of his life, traveling full time in his RV for many years. It is sad to see him like this.

I'm still holding open the possibility of a Baja trip, but I have to wait and see. Meanwhile, Vagabundos has assured me that I will be able to get back 100% of my insurance money if I cancel before my entry date. The nice thing is that I can move the entry date back to whenever I think I can go. I doubt I can get back the money I paid them in advance for the fishing license or FMM.

We will be flying to Mazatlan in March to stay at our timeshare and I will make use of the fishing license by taking a fishing trip, even if I don't get to go to Baja.

It looks like I will be cancelling my trip to Baja this year. My father-in-law is going through therapy now but it looks like he will not be returning to his apartment in independent living, which means my wife will need my help in moving him out of his apartment and into some sort of care facility. I was hoping to get to Baja, but it will just have to wait until next year.

woody is right again. I hope to live as long as your Father in law. I am sure the man has had a great life before these issues cropped up. Good luck to his health I say.

It must have been around 1985 or so. I was at my cousins wedding reception and my Grandaddy (about 90 at the time) was sitting down at a table near the dance floor watching Granny dance. I walked by and Grandaddy said, in his thick Oklahoma accent, "Hey Mike, will you do me a favor?" I said sure Grandaddy, what do you need?" He said,"Keep an eye on Granny for me." I said sure, why? He said, 'cause she's had a few drinks and she's see'in double and feelin' single".

I laughed for an hour!! :lol:

He had a million of 'em.
