Santiago, of the Marmol shop passed away

Ever stop at the Marmol shop on Mex 1, between St Augistin and Catavina??
The friendly old gent, Santiago, passed away on Christmas Day. His daughter and son-in-law now run the shop with a nice shrine in the corner for Papa.
Vanda shed a tear or two for him when we stopped in today. Whenever we showed up each year, Santiago ran in the back and showered himself with cologne so he could give her beeeg hugs.
He was a big huggie bear and we miss him ...

Stop in and buy an onyx wind chime sometime.

Cafe Sonora (Rancho Sonora) I presume? Just south of the El Marmol jcn. with the big fenced RV parking area...

Vaya Con Dios!

Rancho Sonora was originally over the hill on the old main road... the foundations can still be seen. It was moved when Hwy. 1 was built a half mile south to continue to serve travelers. It began in the late 1960's.

wow...just saw this post today for the first time ... we have stopped there MANY times and in our livingroom are many of their onyx animals ... he had mentioned about a year ago that he was interested in selling the place.

RIP Vaya con Dios, Santiago.
