You haven't lived until you plan on a 3 or 4 hour trip to the coast in Baja, and after all of the stucks, mechanical repairs, being lost, etc., that
are frequently encountered here, you finally arrive back home 4 days later after having made new friends, eaten the best of foods, and forgotten all
about the original 4 hour plan you originally intended on

jr, sometimes I do need to contradict your statements.
O.K., the Baja is certainly a nice place (if you don't see the downsites like trash etc)
and worth to live there.
But the Baja is not the only place in the world and I strongly believe that you are ONLY focused on the Baja.
I lived in England > has it's own silly charm
I lived in France > nothing can beat the french cuisine, not even the Mexican.
I lived in Germany > nothing overwelming
I lived in Texas > best steaks but otherwise >?
And planning a 4 hour trip (just south of the border for 2 hours and retour) that's certainly not the Baja.
And within 2 hours one way getting stucked, lost, and having mechanical repairs doesn't sound inviting to me.
I have full understanding if somebody gets lost in the boons down somewhere between a highway and the middle of nowwhere > left from that old cactus.
But 2 hours south of the border?
And to that 2 hour trip you get lost for 4 days???
Dude, that's not encouraging for newbees.
(I'm excluded as I'm made from different wood)
If you wanna people invite to love the baja, you better tell'em good stories, like: there is no better fishing as on Baja
there is no better lifestyle than on Baja
there is no better snorkeling...
there is no better diving
there is no whale watching
there is no better picture making
etc
etc.
Don't need to tell you the points, you know 'em best.
Have fun with getting lost on the 2h-off-road-trip!

The ones that get you unstuck
The ones that offer water and food
The ones that stitch you back up for $20.00
The ones that ride for 2 hours out of they'r way for more gas.
The list goes on and on and it normaley happens when your in destress.
Thats the folks of Baja. Heck getting stuck is the best way to meet people!

Germanicus, I didn't expect everyone to understand the latest "haven't lived" post.
But many will!
And it's not meant to detract from any of the other wonderful things on the planet.
It's just my idea of having fun.
It also has nothing to do with promoting tourism, it's just part of Baja. As you will soon be finding out .

I'm with you, JR on this one...
If you want a predictable 4 hour trip...take the bus tour of the wineries. If you want some adventure....head out to the coast or the mountains of
baja. We have met the best people and had the most fun when things went "wrong" travelling.
And...Germanicus...I disagree, there isn't anywhere else but Mexico...I am broad minded enough to say that there are parts as wonderful as
Baja....Mexico IS the only place in the world! You can't find better scenery, better food, better people...

Hey jrbaja, You forgot the 2 flat tires, both with sidewall cuts, not to worry though, there is always a lantera somewhere and they can fix anything!

Germanicus, and until then what JR says won't make since, but once you have it, LOOK OUT! You will find yourself daydreaming of baja, surfing the net
for anything about baja, planning trips to baja (and driving countless hours to get there) and once you are there, the magic takes over, the people,
food, adventure, frindships, and much much more. It feeds of of its self. It causes natural highs and endorphin overloads. It is the off-the-beaten
path were you will really get to meet, interact, and come to love what baja has to offer. I've only been 3 times in 8 years (twice in the last 2) but
it is surely something special and at times is hard to explain. This is definitely the site you need to be on to hear how people feel about baja.

YES,YES,YES, I certainly will come and see and watch and learn and eat and have fun (not only with flats) and ,,, hopefully get sick.
But I have to sell my property here - at least some tracts - before I really can enjoy any travelling.
No money - no honey!
And NO,NO,NO, I do not want to shut down my computer now.
I want to learn as much as I can about BC.
Well, I do not need to know what's around the next corner - that's something I can easily live with, but learning about a country you never have seen,
that's something I'm into.
And as long as I can't go (see above) I'm asking you guys, O.K.?

I want you guys not to get pimples about that one.

The trips where everything goes right on schedule are the ones I never remember. (Don't have too many of those, fortunately.)
It's the little ventures where we manage to overcome some kind of a Baja glitch, and get home mostly safe and sound anyway, that we're still telling
friends about ten years later.

Break downs, stucks, flats, escaping boats. (even was a participant in having to buy a car at 1am. when the other gave up the ghost 25miles out side
of San Ignacio) 
With every bad? (at the time, some of it wasn't a whole lot of fun) I learned something new, made new friends, and great memories.....and that is
where great stories come from. Everything works out. Wonder what will happen next time, I'm sure to find out!
