Registering MX vehicle in CA

movinguy - 1-17-2011 at 12:55 PM

Slightly off-topic, but need advice/creative thinking . . .

My wife drives a 2008 Acadia registered to a MX corporation. Now that she has permanent residency and drives mostly in CA we need to get it tagged here. I don't have the title as there is still a loan on it (in MX, at a usurious interest rate), and the corporation would prefer to keep it on their books as an expense.

Can a foreign corporation register a vehicle in CA? Didn't look like it from the DMV site . . . :?:

Thanks

It will not meet California smog.

Not a problem - it has the 50 state (including CA) emissions certification sticker under the hood. It's made in Canada - basically the same car sold in the U.S.

I see Mexican plated autos all the time in North SD County, and they are not on cars driven by 'tourist's'.

Probably, but good luck dealing with the DMV. The are a diifficult to deal with and will give you ten different answers.

Call the DMV or stop by an office and see what they require. You may even be able to ask on line. The El Cajon DMV is usually easier. If you get nowhere come back and U2U me I have or did have a contact in the Sacramento office and she helped me out on a similar out of state deal several years ago.
