Another Chinese boat full of illegal cooks hits the beach to unload. That had to be run up under power to nose in that way.

Just beyond Puerto Chileno is Santa Maria Cove and in September of 1966 the Inari Maru No. 10 from Japan wrecked there.

It is fun for me Vince... As long as I am alive and have this vast library I have built since I was a kid, I will try and help make a connection between the past and the present.

I remember driving to Cabo in 1966, when pavement ended before Colonet and didn't start again until a hundred miles north of La Paz... then eneded again 10 miles south of La Paz.

I know you remember those days as well... The golden years of Baja... What great stories came from those times... So many who made that drive found it such an adventure, they wrote a book about it!

With the Internet, we can share those trips, those photos, and those memories... that will last well beyond us!

Go to page #358 at this link regarding this ship. This must be where David K obtined his information. You may have to copy and paste the entire link to pull it up. Interesting story... the ship was fishing illegally and the locals rigged up a fake lighthouse to lure the ship to it's doom!

My source 'Baja California Diver's Guide by Michael and Lauren Farley c1984. On page 200 the wreck is mentioned... after I did go through several books and photo sites on Baja where I thought I saw the photo like Russ's.

For those whop don't understand GPS, its 9 K north of Cabo San Lucas in years past it was a very popular camping beach for Snow Birds. There were times as many as 100 rigs parked on shipwreck beach. It is now Homes and Golf course.:o:o:no:

I believe that in today's Cabo, the location is a small point that lies between the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar and the Fiesta American hotels in the Cabo del Sol development. When the Hacienda del Mar first opened in the mid 90s, there remained a substantial amount of the ship sitting on the point. Since then storms and wave activity have obliterated just about any sign of it.

Before the property was developed, we used to take dune buggies along the Old San Jose road up to Bahia Santa Maria. Kind of recall that area was called Shipwreck Beach.

Do you know what Michael and Lauren Farley are doing now? They owned the Danzante Hotel but sold several years ago as developers were planning a large resort and wanted their property.
Any idea if that development is being built?

I stayed for a couple of nights and they were fantastic hosts!

Interesting!

There is a LOT posted about the new resort at Ensenada Blanca... mostly hate stuff that Danzante isn't there anymore and that someone is developing the area! See posts recently here on Nomad... search 'Ensenada Blanca'.
