.......HughesNet satellite systems have a limit on Mb used/24 hour period. You do vidio or music much and exceed the bandwidth limit BOOM...you are cut way down for a day. Called Fair Access Policy. FAP. When you get fapped you have one free restore token to get around their slow-down

Bob and Susan - 1-25-2011 at 09:41 AM

yup...you got FAP'ed:smug::O

captkw - 1-25-2011 at 09:44 AM

thank's casa manzana,where is that token?

Slug SLOW

MrBillM - 1-25-2011 at 10:32 AM

In addition to the infamous FAP, Hughes sometimes SLOWS to a Crawl (likely due to network congestion) for varying short periods. At least, at the lower level of subscription like mine. I often notice said Crawl around 9 a.m. and, in fact, today it went on for about Ten Minutes. I was at 99 percent of my download allowance at the time.

But, when it's the ONLY choice, that's Life.

I prefer Starbands 7 day rolling average (for me 5 gig) you can always check bandwidth usage at their website. Sat internet isn't the best for sure but for us its the only alternative.

Last time I checked, Shaw Direct is a satellite TV service, not Internet.

Besides HughesNut and StarChoice, there is also VSAT gear. Pricey but works, and you can use a VoIP telephone over it.

I think this was about Hughes net which is for internet usage not for Television.

Is there no TelCel "Banda Ancha" service in your region? Wireless USB port signal.

Pompano - 2-13-2011 at 10:15 PM

At my home in southern Baja, I have used Hughes internet service since it started...a bunch of years ago.

I have had no slow problems at all over all this time...but maybe that's because I do not download music, movies, etc.?

My speed is always good...I guess? I have no complaints, nor do I care. This is Baja for Christ's sake.
