anyone recommend someone to fix my car air condirtioning

AREA,,,, Santa Rosalia or anywhere south

......the only thing the thing´s doing is pumping HOT air,,whatever the setting

Pacmesa in Lapaz on Allende e Independencia 612-125-4454 put in a new compressor for me this summer with no problems. Nice folks!

If your car is only pushing hot air you might have someone look at the adjustment switch first. Both my Fords control levers came apart and all I'd get was hot air too. The AC was OK. There is an old man in Santa Rosalia that works on refrigerators and AC units but you'd have to ask around. Maybe see a mechanic first about the control switch. La Paz will have the best AC service though. Also the mechanic shop just above the Equipoli restaurant in Mulege is good.

My car was doing the same thing. Turned out it had a miniscule freon leak from a threaded fitting. Tightened the fitting and gave it a new charge of freon and it works like new.
I would suggest looking on the floor beneith your vehicle for signs of a leak, but if it's empty you won't see that.

Just a thought.

...thanks folks,,,seems okay today''maybe it's like me ,and needs to 'sleep-on-it' sometimes.
...I was suspecting the control lever,,,but with no pressure turning the knob,,seems to have a f'n computer in it!!!
....anyways,,yesterday I noticed the pipes were all cold when trying to fiddle it,,,so if it goes again I'll lookinto the controls more....

Be wary of trying to get your AC fixed in the middle of winter, I've not had the best luck in the past, most issues are related to minor leaks etc... and if you don't get them all fixed right the problem will persist. Most of the best AC mechanics are not standing by waiting for a customer now since its the middle of winter, car AC tends to be more seasonal work. When a gringo arrives in the middle of winter and asks for AC repair, they will look at you wide eyed "what kind of a person is fixing their AC now, a person with money to burn" you will be milked for every last penny and you won't find a good mechanic and the required work to replace hoses etc... won't be done. I have seen the worst work done this time of year and often for outrageous prices. Since it's not needed you might be best skipping this repair for now and keep your pesos for important purchases like pinatas, sombreros, chicharrones, and bags of fruits.

To be more specific about Mulege:
The mechanic shop, just up the street from Restarante Equipales is the oil and oil changing shop. The guy you want to talk to is the Jefe there; Marcos. He is an auto electric and electronics wizzard. I don't know if he will tackle your air conditioner, but I think he will. He is honest, too.

The other guy Russ mentioned, up the Ice House Road on the right hand side, is Arturo. He is an appliance repair guy, including air conditioners. I don't know if that includes auto air conditioners, but I think so. I think he has the expertise to figure it out.

He is visible, on the hill above the road. You should see refrigerators, and stoves there. I have always had good luck with him. He knows his stuff. Some others have not had good luck with him. I have heard he can be "slippery", but that has not been my experience.

You would be OK with him if you go to his place. He is less dependable if you make an appointment for him to come out to a location. But that is very typical behavior in the Mexican culture.

Where are you going to be headquartered? What is your timeframe? How is your Spanish? (that really helps). You should probably take someone who lives there with you.

I agree - I would start with Marcos in town and then Arturo. I had Arturo rebuild the A/C compressor in my 1993 Chevy PU about seven years ago as the seals were leaking and no problems since - he had to order the parts out of La Paz but that only added a couple of days. Price was good. Jim

Arturo, the man out on Ice House Road fixed my auto ac last summer. He needed a part for which he went to La Paz. He said it was something broken in the line. Cost was about $120US with a 30-day guarantee.

It broke again after 30 days... grrr!, however I was driving around on a whole lot of bumpy, washboard, pot-hole kick-butt roads down there. Should that make any difference/cause it to break and re-break?

Sorry, that's a girlie kinda question, but hey, I'm a girl.

I do intend to go see him again when I return to Mulege.

hey thanks for the suggestions!--I've been in mulege now a 2nd night,,shoulda logged in y'day,,mighta got the work done t'day,,,maybe I'll check them out tommorow if the vient's still mucho!!
...spanish ain't great,,but as long as the compadres have 'pequito' english,we usually work it out!

i got the same story..... no cool air unless i roll down all windows and go faster.

turns out i need a new condenser and filter as my condenser took a rock or just couldn't take the roads "out there," where we prefer to roam.

+/- $500 for parts and labor, basically split 50/50. if you know of a guy i can bring parts to in the ensenada/border region who will do the repair at a better rate, SPEAK UP!

..yeh ,,my condenser and pipes run cold,,,but don't get it through---just HOT air.....I'm happy with that during this cold streak,,,but as things moderate,I -might- just want plain air,let alone AC.

When I was an Aviation Electronics Tech in the Navy, we called this type of "fix" FM--which stood for F$cking Magic. Hope it stays fixed, otherwise, you might have to do "simulated carrier landings" which, for us, translated to banging the gear on the bench until the problem either reoccured or we were satisfied that the problem wasn't going to show up again any time soon.
