Russ, keep the photos comming. Just a little hint that works for me.
When you can try to get the sun behind you and go for the bird's eye. Then train the birds to sit still and pose for a moment.

mulegemichael - 2-10-2011 at 03:16 PM

then i looked at the pics again and didn't see ANY inca doves...duh!...we've got tons of them here along with the whitewings

BigOly - 2-10-2011 at 03:39 PM

Mm, I'd very much like to see some Inca Dove photos if you could. Here we mostly have Common Ground doves and White winged doves. I did photo some Ruddy Ground doves a month ago. But still have not seen any Incas.

I'm not familar with names ... yet. Are they the really small dove?
"Inca doves are tiny gray pigeon-like birds with long tails. Their outer tail feathers are white. They have rusty wing patches easily seen when they fly. Inca’s have a distinctive fish scale pattern on their breast, head and back feathers." (source: http://www.toddshikingguide.com/FloraFauna/Fauna49.htm)
If they're the ones I'm thinking of I may be able to snap a few shots in town (Palo Verde). There is a small block factory I think I remember some graveling up at. Or in some abandoned fields/ranchos on rides nearby.

Thanks... looks like they have a nice place to visit... and have breakfast and a little refreshments...

Yea, Our bird feeder attracts all sorts of birds. The Camp Robbers and Stellar Jays like bits and pieces of chicken skin. An ermine comes by every now and then.

Just great Russ!! Love the head-on shot of the dove!!

Russ - 2-10-2011 at 05:17 PM

I'm not very happy with how sharp the focus is so I read the manual a bit and will try some semi-manual setting tomorrow.
Diane I miss your input. Hope things are alright. 3xken, you too
