Your favorite all time picture taken in Baja is....

mcfez - 2-17-2011 at 09:56 AM

Here's my favorite. Year 2008
This is young Nicky and Salvador's Grandson. I bought them a pack of cigarettes to use to light up their fireworks. Nicky's Grandmother is a fanatic about his welfare.....so I asked them do this pose....then I emailed the picture to the Grandmother. :fire:

absinvestor - 2-17-2011 at 12:58 PM

That is the funniest picture I have seen in years!! The next time I get the grandkids to Mexico I am going to take a similar picture and send it to their parents and my 88 year old mom. My mom and daughter both think Mexico is unsafe, dirty etc and I can see the "I told you so" emails that will come flying back to me!!

mcfez your first post reminds me of my brother around 1951.. we were on the Pacific side .... we were camped out..

That was just about how we looked and what we did... popping firecrackers all DAY when the old man was out fishing ... we used Pall Mall red's ... they were the longest "punk" one could use, plus that was what my dad smoked.. at the time..

We would go out a few times with him but, we were not into fishing, like our Dad was... he really like fishing in Baja... he used to trout fish.. but in the late 40's and early 50's started going down to Baja.. to fish and clam.. we kids loved it.. our mom did not...

For us kids it was a truly a once and a life time experienced ... and the picture.. just brought back so really good memories... thank much...

It's all good... no matter what Government, Banks, and the media.. say

Suck it up and push on...

Will be looking for more pic's as soon as you can get caught up with all around the homestead up in Sac... :):)

Funny I'm getting another the urge to go south again.. its spring time in Baja...

I got this strange feeling that your dad went to Bishop a lot for trout fishing, yes?

I try to live like it was the fifties whenever possible....life is simple too short.

I'll be caught up here in 3 weeks. Business just keeps coming in on all sides of the board. I have been sick with the flu like stuff for the last three days....my "time off" :(

Now you know...and I still remember your response a few months ago  We can come by and grab you on the way to Baja. Hell....I can rig up the ol Motor home for your fancies :light:

Wow! I'm REALLY impressed that you nailed the Los Poblanos photo. Obviously, you have dined there frequently. Not only is their food great, but it is a visual treat watching all the food prep. We'll be making our way south in two months. Meanwhile.... back to the snow.

wessongroup - 2-19-2011 at 11:10 AM

Bishop, thats where we used to go... and over Bishop Pass down onto the John Muir Trail.. he started taking us "camping" and "hiking" when very young... and we all had backpacks.. which were only about 12-15 pounds.. but, can remember those "trips"... one time we saw only one person in two weeks... a guy that was hiking the entire trail... the guy stayed with us for a day or two.. and then continued on ... was a different time.. only worried about "animals" getting into gear... ya could leave a camp and never think about anyone doing "anything" which would be considered "bad behavior"...

But, it got too crowed for the old man... and he switched on travels, to the south ... and his favorite place became La Mision .... where he started staying .. a lot in the late fifties and early sixties.. at a place that belonged to a lady who's husband had died, and stopped using her place ... all most bought it.. but, our mother did not like Mexico.. period.. so he did not get it... that was a very long time ago..

Must admit, taking off again and heading back down sounds good to me... however, the wife is not really up for another trip down, at this time.. plus I'm working on getting back "up"... a little too much trying do things for Christmas.. put be back down, I'm back up to where I can sit again.. but, walking is still a way off ... getting up and around the house..

Thanks for the picture of your horse... looks like the big gal.. has so good feed and some room... that pretty cool.. and its been a while since I've seen that Sac area from the ground...

Will keep at it... hoping to get back up.. and do it again, if possible..

Quail? or Photoshop? interesting!:o
I just know you wouldn't do a photoshop on us but that quail has some serious oddities.
Edit: add a pic. Not nearly Big's quality but the topnotch, beak, & feet seem correct?

That's some quail you've got there Big!

No Photo Shop Russ but that quail looks like he's been sucking on a lime or something?

....I can sit again"

Hell yes! That's great news.

Use to ice fish a lot in the Bishop area....trout come out frozen from the water it was so cold :-) I still use the area ....up behind Yosemite off the 395 (Green Valley) and the June Loop. Lonepine is another favorite spot.

You got a rain check for "pick up" service to Baja :-)

805gregg - 2-20-2011 at 07:52 PM

That would be me on the Zebra Mule with the sombreo in Tijuana in 1957. I don't have a copy of the picture, but I've seen it, and I remember my first trip to Baja was in 1957 because we had a new 1957 Ford station wagon.
