The Aloha, an Avenida Revolucion bar that during the mid-1960s resounded with live rock-and-roll performances by Carlos Santana and Javier Batiz, has been destroyed by fire.

It took 95 fire fighters and nine fire engines nearly two hours on Tuesday to extinguish the flames that broke out at 1:20 p.m. from the building on Avenida Revolucion near Second Street, said Carlos Carreño, a department spokesman.

A cause has not yet been determined, but investigators believe the incident began with an electrical short circuit in the roof of the building, he said. Two workers in the building at the time were unharmed, he said. The fire was under control by 3 p.m, he said.

The Aloha and another bar on Avenida Revolucion called Mike’s remain etched in the memories of music fans from both sides of the border, said Jorge Conde, a spokesman for Tijuana’s Cultural Affairs Institute. “They were at the center of the rock-and-roll movement at the time when Tijuana was the Liverpool of Mexico,” Conde said.

In the 1970s, the bar was transformed into a discotheque he said. More recently, it had been converted into a strip joint.

It doesn't sound as if it was a "Beaver" Bar so it's no surprise that I hadn't frequented it as opposed to the Dozens of the others which I did.

Aloha
