As far as the not expensive part it really depends on where you go. I worked in downtown Mexico City for a time and lived (rent free) in a home lent
to me by my then employer in a very nice area called Polanco.
Taking a walk around the block in that neighborhood to get a coffee, bagel and newspaper would cost you 200 pesos.

yeah...we coffeed at Polaco and found out it is pricey but in general, you can find VERY reasonable meals elsewhere .....
the article on the cemetary was really interesting. I had no idea that aricansoldiers wd be buried here but in the heat, makes sense to bury bodies
fast.
