Beer Smarts

TMW - 3-2-2011 at 08:05 AM

Take this quiz to test your knowledge of beer. There is a Mexican beer sold in Baja in it.

15 out of 15 ... great score, but not sure what that says about me. Since I used to own a liquor store, is that an unfair advantage? I got about half of them just looking at the label section ... clues were helpful on others. Steve

Cypress - 3-2-2011 at 10:46 AM

8 out of 15.

Barbarosa - 3-2-2011 at 11:02 AM

13 out of 15. Should have been 14, but I hadn't noticed the clue about the labels.

DENNIS - 3-2-2011 at 11:15 AM

Jeeezo...I did terrible. Quit after the fifth question getting only one right. I am sooo ashamed. Forgive me.

castaway$ - 3-2-2011 at 11:19 AM

13 out of 15, a couple were 50/50 and made the wrong choice, oh well that was fun!

Nobody told me that. I'll try again.

10/15 for me, probably not even passing. I did get the Corona right, however. I have held a grudge against Mexican beers for a long time and it's probably affected my judgment and clarity. I was the first American citizen to discover Pacifico. I did that on the old liveaboard dive boat Baja Explorador out of La Paz in 1986. They served it up in those little tiny bottles. After drinking one (or was it ten?) I knew I was on to something special, and brought a few bottles back in my luggage. I introduced it to my friends and its popularity soon spread on both sides of the border. The rest, as they say, is history. I am hurt and still mildly offended that I never got proper credit for my discovery. A few of my old friends know the truth but my epoch discovery remains largely unknown to the general public, both Mexican and American.

DENNIS - 3-2-2011 at 12:27 PM

Yep....Ken has been largely ignored in the Pacifico history books. A grave oversight, in my opinion.
His was such a momentous occasion that it, for a few anyway, overshadowed the fact that I, many times, drank voluminous amounts of Pacifico in the humongous Beer Garden at the Pacifico Brewery in Mazatlán in the mid-60s. They charged one half Peso, 4 US cents, for a big glass of Draught.
Of course, my discovery was "on premisses" and didn't count in the big scheme of things. Ken broke the big world ice....so to speak.

12/15

I've been to that beer garden...I think :bounce:

dtbushpilot - 3-2-2011 at 01:19 PM

11-15.....obviously not enough variety in my beer drinking. Well, at least now I have a good excuse to try new brands......dt

I've asked here a thousand times if it's still there. Never a "Yes" so I almost have to assume it's history.
The place was really b-tchin [a word from the day]. It was huge, like the size of a football field with I don't know how many Mariachi bands playing here and there. It would be a shame if it's gone.
It was adjacent to the brewery, downtown. I wonder if that's in the same place??

Welcome to BajaNomad, CDB. Missed your debut a few weeks ago.
Keep suckin up that Pacifico. You're sounding like a true Nomad already.

By the way....see these little laughy heads? That means don't take the post too seriously.
Now.....see this..........?? Nuthin, huh. That means when you don't see a laughy head or anything else, don't take the post too seriously.
Survival skills for Nomad.

Bajahowodd - 3-2-2011 at 03:10 PM

I got 13/15. Should have done better.

1bobo - 3-2-2011 at 04:16 PM

12/15 Somehow I missed the midwest and Canadian beer. Been to Canada, really like Canada & Canadians. Their beer? Not so much.

grace59 - 3-2-2011 at 07:26 PM

13 out of 15 for me. Sadly, I didn't even have to read some of the hints....just recognized the labels...a skill that comes from peeling the labels off of the bottles to keep track of how much I'm drinking :lol::lol:

El Camote - 3-2-2011 at 08:03 PM

14/15 for me too. That damn Labatts threw me a curve ball.

12 of 15!

Gypsy Jan - 3-2-2011 at 08:05 PM

And I don't even drink beer.

Edit: OK, I like micheladas with fresh limas, Dos Equis or Bohemia, por favor.

11 of 15!

Got some that I had never even heard of before. Like 'Stella' something or other - a great clue.

I was at the Pacifico brewery in Mazatlan last August. Unfortunately, there is no beergarden. You can get a free guided tour of the facility though. You just need to show up a day or two before for an appointment. When the tour ends they take you to their little museum/bar at the top of the factory and they give you a few beers for free. It is an awesome view of the downtown area and the harbor.

ddawson - 3-4-2011 at 12:32 AM

ps my score was 9/15. looks like i need to study harder.
