Review El Hotelito, Punta Chivato

We stayed a couple of nights in Punta Chivato, one night at El Hotelito and one at the Hotel Hacienda. For hotel accommodations, until these two properties opened, you had one choice, Posada de las Flores.
El Hotelito (EH) is adjacent to the restaurant Dos Chibatos. These two hotels are managed by the Lujan family with Bob Lujan being the contact person. The EH onsite manager is Ken who many know from his days in Mulege managing Cuesta Real.
EH has just recently opened and is a brand new facility. We stayed in a single room with a king sized bed which was very comfortable ($49 US). It is air-conditioned but has no TV, it has been wired for one so that may be an option later. They provide wi-fi in the office but it was not working during our stay. (Ken was gracious enough to let me use his connected laptop). They have 10 rooms which include some double units. The pool is ready to be filled with water and should be operational very soon.

We ate both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and both were very good. During our stay the fresh fish was cabrilla and halibut. I tasted both and would recommend them. I also tried the scallops and they were as good as the best you get in Guererro Negro. They have a full bar and with English TV channels available. All of the employees were very friendly and understood English well enough to take your food orders.

We were happy to see many locals there Sunday morning supporting the restaurant.

There is a “desert type” golf course right next to EH. We’re talking all sand here so a complete set of clubs will not be needed.

If you haven’t been to Punta Chivato this is a great way to get introduced. It will take you 20 mins to get in on the dirt road driving slow. Passenger cars make the trip daily, but it is rough. Services there are minimal. Bring what you need with you, including ice. The camping beach and shell beach are a great way to spend time.

We were always so happy to have a welcoming restaurant near by when camping at the beach after the big hotel turned their back on us,and we waited and waited for the hotel part to finish. It looks great and I'm sure it will be a great addition to the area. Good luck.

Had some visitors that flew in yesterday to take a walk on the beach. Well, They hadn't really planned to visit but two of them were stung by sting rays and so I played "Keep your feet in the water!" & "Oh come on it isn't that hot!" Yes I said feet. They were both stung twice. Once in each foot. The pilot wasn't stung and was the only one sober. After 2 hours of soaking the victims left with very red feet and smiling quite a bit. One of them had tipped over a few times and I'm sure he slept well last night. So This is a warning to all visitors and residences. The rays are back so do the shuffle. I think I'll lighten up on the medicinal juices next time.:biggrin:

Did I read that this place is going up to 120/night in April? Pretty sure I read it on their website...............cant find it now.

No, that is the Hacienda property which is their upscale property. I will post a review on that soon.

Wow Ken, I had no idea there were choices... I thought the original hotel "Punta Chivato" (Now Las Flores) was it... Thanks for bumping up this thread. My last time there (Punta Chivato) was mid 1973, before the Baja Highway was finished!

Ken. Thanks for the great review. We love Chivato. Have stayed at the "other" one when it was empty most of the time 20 some years ago. Love it, and the quietness of it. Then the new owner, and priced out of our budget. But we want to return to Punta Chivato, and shell search next time down. Will definitely want to stay here. Phil. (are you still in Loreto? You should have bought my brothers boat when you looked at it!!!!! l0l

question,, is this place still open?? in the earlier post they mentioned that it was closed during the summer months

It was closed during the latter part of summer, opened again in the fall, closed for a little while during the holidays and is now going full blast.

Too true about the hot water bath when you get 'rayed'! I have been told by Dr's that those li'l boogers have a lot of bacteria and fungus on their jabbers, and I belive that is just the first step (no pun intended) for treatment; after the pain subsides and soaked for at least 20 minutes to leach out the toxins, then do a debreedment with hydrogen peroxide and gauze, and a good-size bandaid with Triple A antibiotic ointment. Also if possible, take a FULL series of oral antibiotics as well. Our little cove just north of you is full of the li'l darlings this time of year, and every season we have multiple stings. I've heard some horrible stories of encapsulated infections, even in the bones. Those barbs are so nasty! We take our 'victims' over to the military base and get 'em treated there, no charge, and very accomodating to us.

NOT CLOSED NOW AS OF 5/3/2014 Will close July and August.
Just went by and walked in to look. Everything is operational just as the pictures show at Hotelito The BIG hotel just down the road is closed.
Quoted $59/night for the Dorado tourney coming up. Looks like a nice place to stay.
