La Trinidad Restaurant - A Hidden Gem in La Ribera

The excellent food, delicious margaritas, and warm atmosphere and service make the La Trinidad Restaurant a pleasurable experience. I’ve eaten there three times with various groups of people. I plan my Mexico dining experiences around La Trinidad’s special “Mexican Combination” buffet. The chiles poblanos rellenos with shrimp and cheese, chicken mole, chicken enchiladas, and beef taquitos are a combination of flavors from the Baja and other parts of Mexico. The meal I had began with the best sopa frijol I have ever had, and ended with a creamy flan bathing in a smooth and robust caramel sauce. Everything was fresh, excellent, and generous in portion.

The Mexican buffet is alternated with nights devoted to menus featuring fresh seafood (shrimp, lobster, fish) and steaks, ribs, and roasts slow-cooked over a mesquite fire. I was fortunate to have a fillet of a fresh-caught out-of-season grouper. I ordered it a la plancha and served with butter and garlic. It was very well-prepared and delicious. These meals are supervised and prepared by Rosa and Marcela, cooks who combined have nearly 40 years of experience preparing meals for the neighboring Punta Colorada and Rancho Leonero Fishing Resorts.

The margaritas at La Trinidad are some of the best tasting and strongest margaritas on the Baja. They are made, of course, with fresh limes and the local Damiana liquor giving them that flavor distinctive of Baja California Sur. My husband and I know our tequilas, and we know our good margaritas, flavor and strength. Trust us … Felipe, bar tender and great “go to” man for everything, makes an “outstanding” margarita.

Restaurante y Bar “La Trinidad” is housed in a beautiful large palapa filled with traditional equipales tables and chairs. The walls are decorated in detail with a colorful assemblage of fishing memorabilia, Western cowboy humor, and artesanías from Guadalajara; all of these things representing the life, character, and personality of the owner, Mike Odell. The music in the restaurant is also in keeping with Mike’s character. You will likely hear from Willie, Waylon and the boys, as well as from the local live entertainers he brings in for dinners on Fridays and Saturdays, and for Sunday brunch.

As a whole, Restaurant La Trinidad is a unique and wonderful experience, and the quality and quantity of food and alcohol make dining here a good value. It is worth traveling a little off the beaten path. And, don’t worry if you have a little too much fun at the restaurant and bar, Mike has a room called “Casa Borrachos” you can safely spend the night in!

The Restaurant is located on the edge of the town of La Ribera, close to the beach, at the La Trinidad RV Ranch. Dinner is served on Friday and Saturday. Brunch is served on about every third Sunday. To find out the dinner and brunch schedule, menus, entrée prices, and directions, contact Mike Odell at La Trinidad through the information provided on his web page:

Hell it`s even hard to find La Ribera with no sign on the road.
I didn`t have a chance to eat there, but I heard it`s great (Mike said so ;) ).
I did get to check out the place, go online, and watch an amazing amount of birds eating out of the feeders. Loved the "Old Man and The Sea " painting Mike said he just bought from a local artist.
The RV park is spotless, with great bathrooms, and when I was there, very peaceful.
Agavedaze-- GREAT review.
