Drive home to Alberta from the East Cape with truck and trailer last week was easy easy breezy.
Stopped at Villa Maria, Mulege ($25, electric, sewer and cold water only in shower). Very quiet and sad to see the effects of the flooding in the
surrounding neighborhood. Flat tire repaired for $4.
Stopped at Rancho Santa Inez ($7) - lots of campers, new military checkpoint just south of rancho turn-off. Police were parked on airstrip and later
drove through campground.
Last night in Baja was in San Quintin at Los Olivos ($16, power & water, salty water supply). Checked out the fantastic surf at the beach below
Costa Rica. Beautiful and quiet, nice meal with great service at El Jardin restaurant.
Total of 5 military checkpoints and trailer was inspected each time. Overall friendly and courteous.
Took Mex. #3 to Tecate crossing...great road and beautiful country. Most of the construction on the roads is complete. If you take Mex 3, there are
stretches of road that still need lines.
Only saw 2 bikes, a group of motorcylcists and a guy on a really small motorcycle. No caravans seen. The few bad drivers were had plates from
California. No hassles in Constitution, no problems at gas stations.
No wait at the border (3:30 p.m. on Wednesday). Sniffer dog must have noticed residual scent of dog food as we fed our dog the rest of the dog food
before crossing as we were sent to secondary and they asked if we had a dog, then if any Mexican dog food with us. Quick check of the fridge and we
were on our way.
If you take the I-15 North to Montana, there is still a lot of construction South of Salt Lake City, but there were no traffic delays on Thursday @
noon.
Stayed in Seeley at the Sunbeam Lake Resort ($45 includes a free daily airshow). Last sop was in Fillmore, Utah at the Best Western. Lots of room to
park lots of big rigs and free hot breakfast for $80 (incl. tax).
Quickly through Coutts late in the evening with RV ahead of us getting pulled over for extra search.
GPS with Garmin North America upgrade was a good complement to paper maps & Baja Almanac.
Thanks for the trip advice - it was a great adventure and we can't wait to go again!
