Anyone out there who can help out an old guy who's important brain cells have spent too many years hanging out with Jose Cuervo and Jack Daniels?
I have a jpg on my desktop that I want to make into my avitar. I have tried for over 2 weeks.
I am fairly computer literate, but this is making me nutz! :?::?:

There are probably more than one way to setup an avatar but here is what I did.

I loaded my .jpg file into a picture editing program. There are many but the one I like is free and called irfanview.

It allows you to re size the picture. Normally you want to make it less than 150 pixels wide. I ended up with 129 X 96.

You then need to upload this to a picture server some where. Something like Photo bucket should work but I have my own web page so I host it there.

You figure out the appropriate URL for the picture and then edit your profile on this site and put the URL into the box titled Avatar URL.

It should now work. Here are some trouble shooting tips:

1. Make sure that the picture is small enough. If it is too large it will not work right. My first attempt failed so I just made it smaller until it worked.

2. Make sure that you know the URL. Check this by putting it into the address bar of your browser to see if it comes up correctly. If not then you do not have the correct address.

I had never thought about hosting my avatar on my website. Thanks. I'll never be ready for the animated ones...
