I'm renovating a 36' RV Fifth Wheel for a long off-the-grid fishing/camping trip across Canada and Alaska this summer.

Getting an all-new and more powerful, complete solar system.

The RV salesman asked me what new options I wanted in the way of my RV camping and what solar power would be needed?

I said, "I want to pull off the Yukon Highway in the middle of nowhere...next to a trout stream or small lake. I want to push a button that extends all 4 slides plus all window awnings, then another button that auto-aligns the rooftop dishes to satellite television-Internet, make a blender margarita, make micro-wave popcorn, kick back, put my feet up in my over-stuffed Lazy Boy, while watching FOX NEWS..and the world going crazy down south....while I remain 'fair and balanced'..and my co-pilot blends another."

The guy smacked his lips..and smiled.."We can do that!"

.....And then most of my existing solar stuff started to get torn out....



Which brings me at long last to the point of this post.


I have this items for sale at a very reasonable cost. Almost free.. I'm an easy mark and mostly need someone to have a cold one with..bake my chicken, etc.




A Trace C-40 charge controller. A terrific unit. New was around $150.



2 old California Tech solar panels..and 4 fairly new deep cycle 6-volt batteries. I think I bought those panels off a guy in a parking lot in San Diego about 20 years ago..he was in a hurry and kept looking over his shoulder. I am just guessing these are lower then 50 watt panels. The batteries I bought from Powerstride in San Diego..Kurst St. just off Rosecrans...about what?..7-8-9 years ago?




Tags and labels on the backside of the panels. Hope it means something to YOU. I am somewhat challenged by technology. I just recently mastered beer poptops.




Some battery info for you. Says 225 AH @ 20 hrs. 115 min @ 75 amps. They are damn heavy.



I have no use for this single LNB for satellite tv dish and it bothers me...being made in China.

What do I want for all this stuff?

Make an Cash Offer. Or lets horsetrade..for....Grey Goose?..Fishing Tackle?...Classic bamboo flyrods? A nubile young..whoops..best forget that right now..someone may be reading this.

Don't forget to allow for plenty of power for thr mosquito zapper., unless you want to invest in a 50 caliber machine gun to keep the critters of your back.

The choice of using a fiver over a motorhome is simple for my style of adventure. I have both..a fiver and a motorhome. Plus a beat-up old pickup over-cab camper that smells of elk, deer, and my old compadre, Randy.

I like to fish and have my own boat & gear along. I like comfort and room to move around in my RV.. I like mobility. I like having the best options for all.

So, to answer your question:

- With a pickup & fiver, you can pull your boat/trailer behind the fiver.

-So..after finding a nice base camp for an extended stay ..say in a RV park, provincial or stateside..you can disconnect the boat/trailer.

-Set up your fiver semi-permanently for the length of your stay in that area. (with me it's usually a month here..a month there...there are so many choices out there.)

-Use your pickup w/boat/trailer to explore all the lakes & rivers in a 50-mile radius. Returning to home base for a nice campfire and a few hot or cold libations with your co-pilot. This greatly enchances your adventure.



This was my first triple tow rig...full-size 3/4 PU, 33' Fiver, 18'boat on trailer. We were 75 feet total lenght from front bumper to the boat engine prop. Maximum length for almost all areas.

Important to read this: Know the towing laws in your state and all states you wish to tow through. Some states allow towing behind a fifth wheel; some do not. And some have regulations regarding length or weight of the vehicles. 75ft max is what I usually deal with in my choice of destinations. Now, if you are in the bush like I usually am, no problems...no truck police.

Towing boat/trailer with motorhome only. Not nearly as versatile as PU, fiver, and boat, but okay for some shorter, 1-lake only, trips.

I think I'll start a different thread on this...kinda interferes with my peddling my junk!
