most likely bad, it has been bad everytime we've gone...but it is well worth it and probably the most beautiful place we've visited in baja.

I've had exactly the opposite experience of fishabs. I've been out there four times over the last three years and each time the road has been very passable. Given the number of people who live along that coast these days, such roads tend to be graded soon after they are damaged by storms (and we haven't had any of those things in some time down here).
That road is much like the graded roads connecting San Jose de Magdalena or Santa Agueda to the main highway. They don't stay out of service very long, and many ranchers and fishermen who use them don't own 4WD, so a pickup is most often all you need.

Just be sure your brakes and transmission/clutch are in good order, you wouldn't want to end up like the boat picture.

But that's just my opinion.

I haven't been for about 4-5 yrs. What I mean by bad was it was all deep washboard and I was driving a HD diesel. I live on the dirt road section of the eastcape where the road is almost always bad, even a week after the grader comes thru it is washboard again. And agua verde was worse on the 3x we went.

Given that that is what you meant, then I whole-heartedly agree. Washboard is the absolute worse road condition in Baja. So, I stand corrected. On all of my trips out to AV the road has been just horrible. But, at that pace, what a view on the way in once you reach the grades!

On the information side, at the beach we have camped there's a small hill with a cave at the top that has hand-print paintings all over the outside and, at certain time of the year, bats on the inside. It's a really easy access (both the drive and the hike), should anyone be interested, I'd be happy to share more.

Last time I was there. I awoke to screaming at dawn. The screaming ended up being a baby calf getting chased down by 2 coyotes. lucky for the calf, I had a motocross bike with me, so I jumped on it in my skivies and chased down the coyotes. I almost got one of the suckers too.

The mom came over and licked the calfs wounds which where up and down it's hind legs. My wife being a rancher, was impressed, having never seen a white boy in skivies on a motocross bike save a calf from coyotes before. i think the guys in the truck that drove by were impressed too. Lucky they didn't stop though, as it was cold and I am sure I looked like a tall 3 year old.:lol:

That must have been some sight. You sound like you'd be a blast to camp with.

I was there in November and the road was in pretty good shape compared to most years. I had no trouble at all getting in and it only took about an hour all the way to town. It is not for the faint of heart given some of the narrow spots and sharp turns. Good ground clearance helps too. Have fun! :yes:

These photos are a few years old, but illustrate the the type of 'narrow spots and sharp turns' you may run into under 'normal' conditions.
(My over-loaded 2 wheel drive Ranger w/12' aluminum Boat in tow has made it fine BUT... even with a lot of Baja Dirt miles under our belt, its still a little white-knuckle)

sharp turn, and sharp view! It's very pretty, I recommend taking a kayak.
