that was my first taste of wahoo...very nice

durrelllrobert - 4-1-2011 at 09:18 AM

can anyone provide contact info for renting a panga for the 2 days?

willyAirstream - 4-1-2011 at 06:45 PM

durrelllrobert Mateo can take you out. I'll u2u his number tomorrow

Bob and Susan - 4-1-2011 at 07:07 PM

remember if you get a guide
i'm pretty sure he has to be in the tourny too
and you'll need to enter him

you better check

jnrgilbert - 4-2-2011 at 12:33 PM

Here is a website for a possible pangero:
www.mulegetours.com

They will need to enter the tournament. Entry in the tournament includes a ticket to the banquet. Usually. as a courtesy, if the fisherman is married you may want to provide a banquet ticket for his wife.

Hope this helps and keep the questions coming.

BajaBlanca - 4-2-2011 at 12:42 PM

I think we will be there !!

Also I believe everyone on the boat, including the skipper, needs a Mexican Sportfishing license. Jim

Bob and Susan - 4-2-2011 at 04:51 PM

and i think they check...

willyAirstream - 4-3-2011 at 12:28 PM

Mateo Apodaca, a pangero, is already booked. He will be talking to Victor and acouple other pangeros to see who is available. Call Mateo and he will try to hook you up. ( yeah)

LaTortuga - 4-4-2011 at 06:21 AM

As chairman of the tournament committee, I can clarify some of these rules issues.

First, everyone on the boat (charter captain, children, friends, etc.) must be entered in the tournament and must have a valid Mexican Sport Fishing License dated at least the day before the tournament. (That means you can't wait to see how you did before buying a license.)

Second, everyone on the boat must present their fish at the weigh in together, and must show their licenses at that time. In other words, you must have your license with you at weigh in or the boat and all its entrants will be disqualified.

The rules will be strictly enforced.

LaTortuga - 4-8-2011 at 06:54 AM

Another pangero is Victor Mayoral Meza

LaTortuga - 4-8-2011 at 06:56 AM

The updated tournament rules are now available at:

LaTortuga - 5-23-2011 at 08:44 AM

mulegemichael - 5-23-2011 at 08:46 AM

willyAirstream - 5-23-2011 at 09:05 AM

tiotomasbcs - 5-23-2011 at 10:44 AM

Howz the Dorado action at the moment? Water and air temperatures, please. There have been good days and very windy days out on the East Cape!! Hope you have a great Tournament!:smug: Tio

willyAirstream - 5-23-2011 at 11:25 AM

Wow!according to the rules I have to pay his entry fee also + his wife will need a ticket for the banquet and then his panga license is not good for this tourney and I need to buy him a sportfishing license + his panga fee for 2 days. I think I'll wait for the Loreto turney, which I can afford

LaTortuga - 5-23-2011 at 04:01 PM

According to Mateo Apodaca, a pangeros license to take charters is good for sport fishing also.

Cypress - 5-27-2011 at 11:37 AM

Well? It's a little early in the day to be asking, but any fishing reports? Pictures?

mulegemichael - 5-27-2011 at 01:17 PM

today was the first day of the tourney and a whole bunch of fish have been caught already..not a ton of BIG bruisers but lots and lots of 10-20 pounders...at one point this morning our boat with 4 fishermen aboard had four fish on and our boat was surrounded with hundreds of others...pretty fun time being had by all...tomorrows another day!

Russ - 5-28-2011 at 06:04 PM

?

mulegemichael - 5-29-2011 at 09:27 AM

russ...what's the question mark for?...me?...i thought my post was pretty clear...i will post the result of the tourney tonite after the banquet.

Russ - 5-29-2011 at 11:10 AM

Just was hoping for some up to the minute catch reports from anyone. I've only got the 14' tin boat now and was hoping for a report of dorado close in. I really want to do battle with a dorado on my 15# casting set up.
I will look forward to your post tonight. Thanks.

mulegemichael - 5-29-2011 at 11:21 AM

in a nutshell, russ, lots and lots of fish around with quite a few big ones up your way; past santa inez a few miles...more info later.

Russ - 5-29-2011 at 12:34 PM

Thanks ! Tomorrow is "suppose" to blow and then settling down later in the week and I hope to get out.

Cypress - 5-29-2011 at 03:46 PM

Well? Excuses aren't excepted. Wind and waves? Lets see some fish pictures.

mulegemichael - 5-29-2011 at 06:56 PM

well...mateo won the damn tourney and i am too far gone to actually respond in any way that might be reasonable...tomorrow..

Lauriboats - 5-29-2011 at 07:35 PM

Hey Mike, by chance did I win the big reel in the raffle? Maybe my buddy Cindy did, she kept telling not to enter because it was hers.

Hook - 5-29-2011 at 09:04 PM

Was there a minimum weight on the dorado for the tournament?

It would be great to see some stats on how many entries there were and how many actual fish were caught/kept/released. This kind of information COULD be used to help make the case for keeping dorado a sportfish only catch.

technically, legally organized tournaments are supposed to turn in their catch stats to conapesca... I would like to see some stats as well.

mulegemichael - 5-30-2011 at 07:49 AM

the minimum weight in the tourney was 10#...1st place, charlie jetton, 33.7#, 2nd place, john macy, 27.2#, 3rd place, john dinning, 25#, and biggest other fish, marlin larsen, 16# cabrilla......i don't know how many fish were caught or released but do know a whole bunch of fish were caught...in our boat alone on the first day turned loose dozens of small fish and i know lots of other boats did also....pam, i will ask the committee about their stats....it was a really well run, organized tourney with lots of prizes and a great payout.

Cypress - 5-30-2011 at 08:41 AM

mulegemichael, Thanks for the report.:D

Lauriboats - 5-30-2011 at 12:52 PM

Sounds like a great tournament, a lot more fish this year.

capt. mike - 5-31-2011 at 06:26 AM

why no pix? wasn't there a web site for these before?

mulegemichael - 5-31-2011 at 06:39 AM

i woulda posted some here, mike but i haven't a clue how to do it and don't have the patience to try...tons of fish caught tho.

Hook - 5-31-2011 at 10:08 AM

Mulegemichael, were anglers reporting seeing and/or hooking very many billfish during the tournament?

A lot of billfish were seen but most of the angelers didn't want to waste time with one so the billfish were avoided, if possible. I think there were a couple hooked not sure of the result. Jim

mulegemichael - 5-31-2011 at 11:20 AM

jim's right on; there were lots and lots of marlin/sails spotted but we avoided them like the plague.

understand
