How long is the drive to BoLA from SD

JZ - 3-27-2011 at 06:09 PM

I've been there a couple times by boat, but never by car.

What's the drive like these days?

I've been off the board for a while. What's the latest word on safety?

10 hours from TJ, 12 hours from SD approximately

Most can make it in 8-10hrs. I just drove the road, but went further south. No issues to report some bridge construction going on, but it did not effect anything.

Just be vigiliant and keep your eyes open and you'll have no issues.

there is no place in SD that is 2 hours from TJ. watch out for the area around El Pedregoso and 15 miles south. the road is brutal. bring a spare...............

If someone is in SD then they have to head south, exchange money, buy ins, enter the border, stop, get a tourist card, and head south, get lost, etc... It takes a while for most, others no so much.

The guy obviously isn't a pro pre-running a rally car.

It depends on what you mean by "San Diego" and what you're driving and/or towing. After crossing the border at SY and taking the toll road, it's very hard to beat 9 hours, and 10 is average.

10hrs from the SY border crossing

I agree, unless you are traveling with my wife, then you have to stop at walmart to get something we could have gotten in SD, then find a place for her to pee. Now accross the street to Costco for something else we could have gotten in SD. Now find a place for her to pee. Next a coffee shop, and a place to pee a half hour later. Finaly on down the road, all the way to Maneandero, to a Pemex station, (not for fuel). You seeing a pattern here. Anyway, without too many stops you can make it in 10 driving hours, stops are extra.
Anonomous

Lots of variables, including road construction, lines at military stops, lines at gas station. Know when sunset is and plan accordingly, with a Plan B. Don't be in a rush - be safe.

If you are not towing, don't take too many photo stops (or call them pee stops if you wish) and drive with purpose (ie. fast)... then From the border (Tijuana, Otay, Tecate) to Bahia de los Angeles is 8 hours... 5 to El Rosario (which I have done many times, and always 3 from there to Bahia de L.A.).

Planning for 9-10 is a good idea, however!

Coming north, add at least an hour +... the military checks are longer northbound then you have the U.S. border wait.
