BajaNomad

To Pompano from Skeet/Loreto

gnukid - 3-29-2011 at 07:34 AM

With respect to mindset of certain posters, how do you think others might feel about Nonsensical Narrow Minded Seniors? Or the Northern Posers commenting on Southern Baja?

DENNIS - 3-29-2011 at 07:39 AM

WOW....is today going to be dedicated to regional snobbery? You guys could at least wait til the beer store opens. I'm in need of a box of inspiration. :fire:

yellowklr - 3-29-2011 at 07:42 AM

Yeah don't let the Idiots ruin a good thing.........

gnukid - 3-29-2011 at 07:51 AM

Seriously, you have a large contingent with their experience in the first 100 miles of Baja making sweeping comments to some posters who report a different set of experiences and values? How would you feel? BCS has millions of visitors, much of it in the tropics, its a different place with a different government, different laws, different prices, problems, issues, yet you have a large group of Northern posters and some of them very arrogant posting insults when Southern posters relay our experience. Look even Skeet is turned off!

Its about time we come to grips with this, posts should be divided by region, and posters should have a symbol noting their region. Arguing about nonsense which is vastly different and incomparable is getting old and its a waste of time, there is little comparison in experiences and dependencies between North and South. They are 1000 miles apart.

David K - 3-29-2011 at 07:55 AM

Baja Civil War? The North vs. the South? The Blues vs. the Grays? Shall a wall be built along the 28º parallel? Shall the Eagle statue at the state border be turned south? :?:

DENNIS - 3-29-2011 at 08:05 AM

Paul.....you are being ridiculous.....to say the least. I don't see an onslaught of regional superiority of which you speak. I just don't. What I see most of is people asking questions.
There are substantial differences between regions however. BCS has great fishing and Hurricanes.....we up here have crime. That said, I don't see anyone holding up these issues for ridicule or favorable comparison....unless of course you want to support the blistered mantras of a geriatric dilusional gasbag holier-than-thou desert rat Texan.........your new amigo, Skeet.

"Look even Skeet is turned off!"

Nope....I just don't see it.

David K - 3-29-2011 at 08:09 AM

Skeet... they have tried to force me off ... You just have to refuse to give them that kind of power... There are many more people who read Nomad then post here or are even registered here... They benefit from what you, Roger, myself and other 'good Nomads' post here... So don't let the very few complainers and freedom haters chase you or Roger away! There are plenty of good Nomads who enjoy Baja Norte... We just can't get as far south as Baja Sur as often due to time and money issues.

gnukid - 3-29-2011 at 08:10 AM

How about the endless visa discussion, or violence discussion, RE advice, drug war, it's regional. You don't notice a dog pile from the Northern Posters, do we have to mention names.

The answers to most of these questions are vastly different based on region. Nothing wrong with a large community, nothing wrong with discussion, but some people don't understand the difference. Whatever, we can keep posting about whether you need a visa or not til infinity, 'to the moon Alice!'

DENNIS - 3-29-2011 at 08:13 AM

I'd rather deal with the hurricanes, than the AK47's and AR15's... but that is just me. However...I do feel for my northern neighbors...I know the majority of you did not sign up for this. Us BCSers knew what we were signing up for and accepted the hurricane and tequilla risk.

Mother nature is way more forgiving than what I read on borderland beat...that site scared the bejusus out of me.

Regardless of where one lives, there are problems. Last month when I was in the states, I was sickened by what was on the news.. everyday people were getting killed, beaten, robbed and raped....and I was considering relocating nob for my son's sake.

In all seriousness; it's good you have you back "Skeet."
Although we've seldom agreed on anything, I have missed your opinions. I can't say that my life would be any richer or better without them, and it would be a shame to eliminate them through censorship (God shuts us all up in due time).

I like things the way they are. Sure, at times they seem to get a little "honest," but it seems Doug has a good handle on when to step in. And, if nothing else, it clues you in as to how those outside one's own circles (whom we tend to select because they think like us) think--something that could save your life one day.

Anyway, welcome back, "Skeet," I missed you, Old Buddy. And gawd, I hope Pompano isn't serious.

But, without even seeing it, I think I have a photo of a MORE IMPRESSIVE pile of POOP that I have just been waiting for the right moment to post, and it appears that that moment may have passed me by.

Please, somebody, give me reason (with a request) to go looking through my photos for the one of an IMPRESSIVE PILE OF (human) POOP. It was taken somewhere in Baja, so it is board-related.

Aaahhh, vintage Skeet--in spirit, if not in grammar, syntax and spurious use of capitals.

Here I go again, whipping that stinking, dead horse.

Skeet, can you really not discern the cause-and-effect of your use of language? You start off with a positive view of humaning, then take a swing with all of your favorite buzz words that are sure to elicit a reaction from some, and then complain when you are responded to with negative remarks.

What gives, old fart? Is it as confused and chaotic from inside that brain of yours as it appears to be from the outside? Here's a clue: it usually isn't considered a good thing to be narrow-minded, but it does go a long way to explain your words.

Ohhhh puleeeeze, David. Skeet, whom we all have and show tons of affection for, is afforded way more tolerance than he gives to others. If anyone here ever took it seriously, it would be a misunderstanding on their part.

Stooopid thing always reminded me of a draw-bridge that wouldn't return to a position that would let traffic continue.
Maybe that's the symbolic seperation some here would like to see. A monument to isolation.

Bajafun777 - 3-29-2011 at 10:21 PM

Both North & South have good and bad but all have interesting and fun people if you get out in the local cafes, stores, charity causes, etc. Have had some very good experiences with people coming to help when help was needed. They came without expecting anything but knowing they were doing the right thing.
Thus, I try to keep the same "Pay It Forward Attitude" when I help others out North or South Baja. Even with some of the written put downs between nomads on this site, I doubt that anyone here would pass another nomad by in Baja if they needed help. Take Care & Travel Safe "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN"

P.S. currently down in Maztalan after driving across from Nogales,on the way down I had stayed a few days in Los Mochis before making the 5 hour drive into Maztalan. Will be heading further south to Puerto Vallarta in a few days. Have never driven that far down on mainland but told it is 6 hour drive down from Maztalan. Will jump on the 15 toll road until it runs out about 109 miles from Puerto Vallarta. Will take the road along the coast at San Blas to try and avoid the mountain traffic puzzled drivers,LOL.

Having as much fun as my drive down to Cabo in October from Rosarito, just TOO MUCH FUN!! Really liked La Paz where I also took the ferry across to Topobambo which is only 11 miles from Los Mochis before I started my trip back to Nogales the next morning. Left at 7am and was crossing Nogales by 4:30pm. Yes, I used the Toll Road going and coming just safer & faster. MMMM GOOD!! Now that is what I am talking about Baja or Mainland I have met Nomads in both regios, as we just do not like being fenced in,LOL>

Thank gawd that is what you meant. I didn't have you pegged as being dogmatic to that level. You tend to restrict it to economic issues, which I seldom agree with, but at least understand where it's coming from.

As for the issue you cite, I don't think it is so much freedom haters as much as would-be censors. And really, wouldn't we all like to have Doug's power? I know I would have impossed a censorship or two on this board if I'd had the authority, and at least one of us made it their stated objective to drive me off the board in a thread dedicated to that purpose--a thread, incidentally, that got censored (deleted) by Doug.

While Skeet is harmless, he can inflame people (probably while he's huminisming 'em). Perhaps you don't see it because his politics align with yours, mostly. That said, I respect his freedom to say the stupid things he says. If I find them objectionable, I have the freedom to respond to them, or to simply ignore them or not read them at all.

Unless they've made some serious progress lately, the toll road south of Mazatlan ends around Escuinapa before taking up again once you begin to ascend from the coastal plane up to Tepic. From Tepic, there is only one road down to PV, and it isn't a toll road. But the hilly section doesn't last long and is quite beautiful, very woodsy and later, jungly.

There is, however, a toll road should you continue on from Tepic to Guadalajara, and then head down to the Coast and Puerto Vallarta. I always have opted for the Tepic-to-the-coast route when coming from Mazatlan, personal choice.

The non-toll road section south of Mazatlan is one of my least favorite sections of highway in all of Mexico. Lots of idiots who pass when they shouldn't, passing from the back of the line and then jamming themselves back in when opposing traffic suddenly appears. I'm sure you know the type.

When you get to PV, be sure to get out to the Garden of Eden, south of town. It's where they filmed the Predator movie and it has an interesting restaurant with a river passing through it and includes a nice swimming area, all located in the jungle (I didn't eat there, so I can't recommend their food).

Bajatripper, thanks for the input and I had have equal votes on going through the curvy mountains and the other choice of going the coastal route once down to turnoff for San Blas. Think I will do the San Blas coastal going down and maybe try the curvy mountain route on the way back.
Hope all that travel Baja and Mainland Mexico have great experiences and safe travel to and from. I have seen a number of accidents and this is the reason I also wish safe travel and care for anyone traveling on their way and in Mexico.
Skeet definately has a different take on things but when and if we meet up I promised him a beer some time back. I have heard he is back in Texas now and not sure if that is true or just people testing the waters to see where he really is,LOL>
I never get upset with someone with a different opinion or that aggressively pushes their agenda on something they have strong convictions with. I would rather know where you are coming from than be totally confused as to what the heck you are talking about,LOL> We can always agree to disagree and guess what the world will still spin the same way again and again. Sshhhhh, keep that under your hat, Mom! I don't want these people to know what a wuzz I really am!

But even if it were true, you have to admit I do pretty well with tequila and other such drinks. Miss the all night drinking-and-talking sessions with you.
