Where is the SENTRI pass lane at Mexicali East

bonanza bucko - 4-2-2011 at 08:00 AM

We have our new SENTRI passes but we have not used them yet.

Can anyone tell us how to enter the SENTRI lane at Mexicali East without getting too tied up in the regular traffic?

Thanks,
BB

Getting Tied up in the East

Well, the whole thing "may' be a work in progress, BUT as it stands (last week), the Concrete barriers dividing off the Western-Most lane as a Sentri BEGINS once you've actually crossed the bridge into the U.S.

SO, if the exit lines are out to the highway, you're going to be in heavy-traffic for quite awhile. It all depends on how backed up the Mex side is.

This could change, but without serious construction work, there isn't a lot of extra room on the Mex side.

The IRONY (at present, anyway) is that IF you've arrived at the point where the Sentri is blocked off, you're only about 15-20 minutes from the Kiosk under normal flow conditions.

It's the extreme left lane. Almost half way from the Blvd to Gates.

Thanks for the info..appreciate it!

Given the construction problem at the West gate do you think it would be faster to go through the old, downtown gate?

It is tricky to use the Sentri at the east port. Usually there is line turning left off the main road into the port. Now if there is a line you simply parallel it and turn left as if you were in your own left trun lane. If there is a cop directing traffic, better, just point to the Sentri lane which is on the opposite side of the median, extreme left, keep in mind that these are the entry lanes in to Mexico which have been now converted into two way traffic. This lane will take you all the way to border past the concrete barriers. I use it often but it is confusing.

To get acquainted with the flow try it when there is less traffic and not on a weekend otherwise stick to the old port.

We need DK to post one his great maps on this one...
