Our son Josh and his lady Jonna went to Baja over Labor Day weekend... their goal was to have a beach camp on Shell Island, south of San Felipe (Km.
26). Josh's mom and I were not able to go with as originally planned... but they were not swayed as the draw of Baja was too great.
Josh has been with us to Shell Island three times, but this was the first in his Ford Ranger 4WD...
Once on the sand of Shell Island, the Ford dug in... seems the 4WD wasn't engaging... So, there they camped... in the hot September wind. This was
Jonna's first Baja trip, and while it didn't all go as planned, she enjoyed the unique tranquility of Shell Island, an unpopulated sand bar that is
surrounded by water during the highest tides.
Here are a selection of about 1/3 of Jonna's photograph's from their trip to Baja, the photos tell there own story for the most part captions are not
needed. THANKS JONNA for allowing me to share your photos here!:

Here's how you deal with that sand. Actually, Rob explained to them that they needed to dig ramp formations under the wheels; they were still there
about 30 minutes later. Might still be there, for all I know.

You scare me sometimes Woody!
Josh, is Elizabeth's son and my step-son... I am happy to still consider him 'our son'. Elizabeth (Baja Angel) is his mom... as I said above. My son
(from my first marriage) is Christopher...
Sorry this was confusing to you!David K - 4-3-2011 at 04:14 PM

I call that 'mud'... interesting tire chain/ rope.
You can see Shell Island way back in the distance (sand dunes)... building on top.
These are the salt/ mud flats that surround the island and on occaision get covered during extreme high tides or storm surges... This flat is
literally inches above the normal high tide line. viabaja recently posted photos showing the water in this area during a 19 ft. tide.
ViaBaja's photo posted 3/25:
This is how it has been here since the 1960's, with no noticable change in the sea level for the past 50 years+.
So, the sun dries the top, but it is still soft mud below... 4WD is the way to go!

sorry for the innuendo. in the normal world i would have expected to read, "Baja Angel (Josh's mom) and I."
i guess i should be more in tune with your family tree......David K - 4-3-2011 at 10:07 PM
Yah, I suppose I sometimes leave out enough details!
Sorry to confuse you... but I did give the Km. marker to where the photos were taken... do you want GPS, as well? (of course I believe in fair trade
