Any gas between El Rosario and Catavina??

Is there any? and where?

We're planning a trip down and will be doing some off roading on motorcycles towards Punta San Carlos but by the time we get back on Mex.1 around El Progresso we'll need to fuel up

Is there any gas available in between?

I have bought gas from the guys at Rancho El Descanso many times. They usually keep several drums of fuel available and sell it to you in 5 gallon / 20 liter quantities (approx).

The ranch is located about halfway between El Rosario and Cataviña on the east side of the highway...

El Descanso is about 8 miles before El Progreso... Here is a road log from El Rosario to the El Marmol turnoff.

Cataviña is only about 77 miles from El Rosario, FYI.

A big Baja thank you goes to BajaGringo for spotting an error in my mileage figure for Hector!

Hector's monument is between Km. 116 and 117 at a curve about a mile north of the first access to Mision San Fernando.
I had listed it at Mile 31.6 from El Rosario Pemex, and it probably should be 36.6 (corrected above).

That surprised me too. Those guys could sell it at any price they wanted and knowing they are the only game in town they really don't take advantage...

my 4runner only gets about 225mi/tank... they could have charged me double and I would of happily payed it...as there were no other options, and it was hot!

Actually it may even be cheaper than some Pemex stations as they actually give you the volume of gas you ask for...

El Hector's Monument?!! I remember seeing it for the first time--what the Hell... The road is windy and dangerous . Love the work in most monuments but this one is..Awesome. Sorry to Hijack but anyone know what happened?? DK I've never stopped so the photo of young Hector in the facsimile of his rig is creepy, verdad.

Yes, but we're taking the trail/road from El Rosario down the coast to Punta San Carlos and then back up to the turn off junction with Mex 1 then will go hit up for fuel at El Descanso which I've scaled off around 120miles

Which is good as my range is only around 150 which wouldn't get me into Catavina....

Yes, if you are continuing on south from the Punta San Carlos junction... Otherwise, that is only 14 miles from El Rosario's Pemex (to the north) if you need to get gas (and El Descanso is 17 miles to the south).

I'm back with a couple of other gas stop questions to confirm as it's been awhile since I've been there.....

- I've got an old map with a barell gas stop marked on it about 12km on Mex1 north of the BOLA turn off, is there still someone there regularly selling gas?

- We are going to be getting into Gonzaga late on Tuesday, what time is the Pemex there usually open to? I've heard that it's closed on Wednesdays?

- Is there gas still available at the sawmill 8km south of the Laguna Hanson campgrounds?

Gas is sold from cans AT the Bahia de los Angeles junction (not 12 km. north).

Sounds like you saw an old photo of 'El Crucero' with gas drums, from pre-1973 when there was a rancho there where the (then) main gulf route joined the main transpeninsular route.

Gas was also signed for sale at Laguna Chapala, just south of the Gonzaga/ Coco's Corner road junction last summer.

If they have gas, the Pemex at Gonzaga closes daily for lunch (siesta) from 2-4 pm. If the Pemex is closed, as at Rancho Grande across the road... they have there own tank, and have sold gas when the Pemex was out, before.

I can't advise on the Saw Mill situation... TW or others here may be able to answer that one!
