Anybody have word on how Coco is doing?

I was at Coco's Corner about 2 weeks ago and the fellow there said he was in the hospital in Ensenada (general) but no word on his condition or when he would return.

NORRA, the off road racing promoter, heard from him not long ago that he would not be at his place for the Mexican 1000 race in early May and he was having trouble paying his medical bills. NORRA was setting up a collection for him and several other charities before and during the race.

I talked to him in Vizcaino last month. He said he was spending a lot of time in GN.

Someone watching the place?

Usually.

There is a rancho, over the hill from Coco's, as well... It is just out of sight, on the older road to Gonzaga.

When we stopped by in March the man taking care of his place said he was in Guerrero Negro. The man lives in the blue house at the turn off at hwy 1.

We where there about the same time as TW... the guy said Coco was in GN.
The guy solicited a donation (said it was for Coco). But he had no beer or sodas. The place was cleaned out. It was a little weird (even for Cocos corner).

Coco told me last year that the folks who stole a lot of stuff from his place when he was away for surgery two years ago were from a nearby ranch....probably the one you are referring to....:?:

I saw Coco in Ensenada during the 500 race. Had a chat with him in the hotel yesterday morning and he said they still needed to cut the bone to square it up. That would be soon and he expected to be back to his place this fall, probably Oct. or maybe Nov. depends on the healing time and doctors OK. He was in good spirits and looking good.

TW ....thanks for that update.

I got the highest respect for Coco......who here thinks they can sit out in the hot desert.....mostly alone....and without legs? Me being a tough guy at times.....I couldn't! Coco is the poster child for folks with handicaps.

Coco is currently staying with his friend (Pablo Ibarra). He is scheduled for his 3rd surgery on June 9th at the Social Security Hospital in Ensenada. The 1st was the amputation itself, the 2nd was, and 3rd is, a revision surgery that are trying to fix the screwed up 1st surgery. Most of this information comes to me via an email I received from Pablo. It also comes with an address, and various phone numbers for Pablo and Coco that I do not feel comfortable giving out. If you're interested in contacting Coco you can U2U me or email me at: boe4fun@charter.net and I'll forward it to Pablo.
The problem with Coco as it sits right now is that he has an "adherent scar" on his left residual limb which doesn't allow him to use a prosthesis on that side, as the naturally occuring motion of flesh over bone will constantly rip the flesh because the skin is actually attached to the distal end of the tibia (the far end of the shin bone). If the upcoming surgery corrects this problem, Coco is still faced with other rehab problems - mainly that he most likely has developed significant knee and hip flexion contractures from walking with his knees bent and spending most of his awake time in a sitting position for the last couple of years. Anyway one looks at it, Coco is going to have a long and difficult rehabilitation process ahead of him. I'm sure that we all wish him the very best.

Oh no, that's so much for him to deal with, poor guy, he such a sweet man. I certainly wish him the best. Is there anything in particular he needs? My guess is money. Is there any fundraising going on for him? I would like to help if anyone knows about that.
