Bahia de los Angeles to El Progresso

Anyone driven south out of BOLA on the graded dirt road to El Progresso/San Francisquito lately? I will be down that way for the NORRA 1000 and will be hauling a trailer.....just wondering what the road conditions are like.....

Yep, just did it and you should take the trailer out the LA Bay pavement to Hwy 1 and meet the race vehicle at Vizcaino where the race course exits...I just preran the entire thing for Rip to the Tip and your just asking for trouble taking a trailer back there...sort of crazy if you ask me.

So Geoff, based on what Tim says... do you think you can get re-positioned at L.A. Bay or Vizcaino, and keep the trailer on pavement?

Tim (Desert Bull) knows how to judge the road best for your trailer.

Geoff, Are you trailering all the way through following the course or setting up a remote pit out there? It is almost always better to trailer in from El Arco - The LA Bay route is usually rougher. I will be on it in 2 days and will try to report back, but Desertbull hit the nail on the head...But, if you HAVE to get out there with your trailer then I would do the El Arco route.

Pacifico, if you have also been on the Guillermo Prieto (Vizcaino) shortcut, how would you compare it to the El Arco road? The dirt miles is the same either route, just that the Guillermo Prieto junction with Hwy. 1 is 22 miles further south on Hwy. 1.

It has been many years since I drove either, but when I did the Guillermo Prieto road was much smoother than the El Arco road (and was easy to visit Mision Santa Gertrudis, too).

I am setting up the Mag 7 pit that a whole bunch of racers will be using....and the location was assigned by NORRA, so I gotta get out there no matter what. I know our crew hauled a trailer in there last year without problems, but obviously a lot can change in a year.

I am fine with taking the El Arco route in though....the BOLA option just seemed more direct on paper.

It is a graded/ washboard road so, it means just go über slow south from L.A. Bay! Visit Pancho (Bahia San Rafael) on your way home... room to turn around there... 1/4 mile off the main road.

Sorry for the late reply...just got home the other day and I'm cleaning up. DK, yes I have been on the Guillermo Prieto (Vizcaino) shortcut, and for the most part it is more sandy than the El Arco route. However, I would stick with the El Arco route because if I remember right there was a rocky section where a trailer might be difficult. They have done some grading on the LA Bay route, but it is still terrible for a trailer in my opinion. The El Arco route is almost always good to go.... Good luck BajaGeoff!
