Mana thread

Mana means "Positive Energy" in Polynesian.

Any Mana fans here?

tripledigitken - 4-16-2011 at 12:55 AM

Si.

I first saw them at the Santana Supernatural tour at Coors Amphitheater. Ozomatli also played at that concert, they rocked!

When are they playing in LA?

JaraHurd - 4-16-2011 at 08:52 AM

Hey Ken...we are big fans. Waiting for their LA concert date. Bought their new CD last week. My music contact at the Pacoima swapmeet claims they will be playing here soon...so I am anxiously waiting... Maybe we can finally meet if you attend the concert!! Keep me posted?? I will let you know if I find out first..

We are big time Mana fans...

While our band, Fast Eddie and the Slow Learnerz were still intact two years ago in Mulege, we performed (and sang in Spanish) several covers of Mana. The locals loved it as well as the gringos.

We also played kickass Blues, Rock and some Jazz.

That band was a once-in-a-lifetime coming together of just the right musicians at the right time in the right place. And now...*poof*...only a memory. As Kurt Vonnegut says: "...and so it goes...

bajajudy - 4-16-2011 at 02:07 PM

Yes I love them
We were in a hotel in Granada, Nicaragua getting ready to go out to dinner when a live concert of theirs came on. I refused to leave the room until the concert was over and have been a big fan since.
They did a lot to help with the turtle conservation project....real men dont eat turtles!

I will ask Leidys if she would like to go. Her family in Colombia really enjoy Mana. She told me that Fer's Mother was the theme of many songs from the new album.

BajaBlanca - 4-16-2011 at 06:26 PM

Tony - what happened to your music group ?

One of my favorite Mana songs...

BajaGringo - 4-16-2011 at 08:08 PM

What really draws me to the music of artists like Mana, Arjona and Juanes are the lyrics. A lot of great messages in many of their songs...

I agree!

The lead singer/guitarist, and the keyboard player and his singer wife went north and never returned. Eddie still comes down. He has a house in Burro Beach. Macy is still here. They play occasionally with other musicians who wander through, but the music genre (mostly pop pap) doesn't cut it, for me. :barf: The level of musicianship also did not match that of two years ago. It don't mean a thang if it ain't got that swang.

That magical year just happened, with the exact right pieces falling together by lucky happenstance. When good journeyman musicians meet they can play as though they have played together all their lives. Of course, some disciplined rehearsal time occurred which made the performances look easy to the audiences.

Mana on Belleza Latina! Univision - Sunday, April 17th @ 8 p.m.

Ken Cooke - 4-16-2011 at 08:35 PM

Nuestra Belleza Latina will feature a live performance by Mana.

Paula - 4-16-2011 at 08:58 PM

I love Mana! I first heard them on the Today show (wish I had a better story!)

Elefante is a good group too, I think we found them on Bandamax back when we had Sky satellite. I sure wish Shaw had Bandamax!

Vilma Palma e Vampiros [from Argentina]

This group toured (years ago) with Mana, but fell off of the map into relative obscurity. I still hear their music on Radio Super Etrella 107.1 FM Los Angeles, as their music is timeless. Their music should appeal to Mana fans, IMO. Enjoy!

Ozo ROCKED the opener.
Mana doesn't have anything in the San Diego area on the books, unfortunately.
Then next time I saw Santana there they were asleep at the wheel....not an inspired show.

I saw Ozomatli in Hollywood in '06, and what a great group of performers!

Definitely bad timing, since she was talking about us going to the concert. Since I bought her airline tickets, she hasn't said a thing about Mana.

JaraHurd - 6-4-2011 at 11:07 AM

Man...You are an awesome husband Ken...I wish there were more people like you around. Good job man.

Don't say that too loudly in Los Angeles. They are performing 3 back-to-back sold out arena concerts here. :!:

try another listen envisioning Sting / Andy Sommers & Stewart Copeland bashing it out. Then you may get how un-distinctive their sound is. (I liked The Police so I can listen to Mana no problem. Just stating the obvious)
