How much should it cost me to get my FM3?
What is the best way to get this done?

I would use an agent local to where you are.

Also, I have heard that the Ensenada Immigration guy with the attitude has been transferred!!!!!

Not sure of the current prices, but the process will depend on what office you intend to use. If it's Ensenada, get an agent. Anywhere else, you can probably do it yourself.

If he's headed down there from SoCal via San Ysidro, y' get in the far right lane (there's a gate at that lane). Go in and park. Go into immigration and they hand you a form to fill out, go down the row to the bank (maybe coupla hundred feed) and pay. $28 IIRC. And then back to immigration with the receipt. We had a big group and it didn't take us an hour.

Dennis, I'm curious... Why get an agent in Ensenada? Once (admittedly a *very* long time ago) I got my visitor's pass in Ensenada at an office on the way into town, coupla blocks before the Pemex station. Is that place gone?

Anyway...the Ensenada office is infamous for their low level of assistance.

The office is still near the Pemex Station, across the street from Arjonas.

Thanks for your response Long Legs, a notario wants $1500 for the process. Sounded a bit excessive to me...

It's been sooooo long since I got my original FM3, so I'm not current on first-time FM3 fees, but renewals are currently in the $110 - 120 USD equiv. range. I know local agents charge $100-150 per person, so if you do it yourself, you'll be saving that amount right off the top.

First time (5 yr ago) went to Imm. in Santa Rosalia. They had a instruction sheet that said what was needed for FM3. Did it myself and have everafter. Do it yourself and buy $ 100 to 150 of Pacifico. Be sure to invite us nomads to help you share the wealth

I don't know why they wouldn't, but this is the first time I've heard of a Notario doing agent work. It's just another job, I guess.

I just had mine renewed friday at the Ensenada office Carlos Victoria does mine it was 275 dls. I have done it in the past and 275 to me was cheap.
If you do it yourself it can cost close to that amount if you consider the things they require 140dls federal fee translation of bank statement 30dls page letter of intent in spanish 30dls page. and all the trips down to imigrations because you didnt dot the i or cross the t 275 is cheappppppp :cool:

do it yourself. fill in the form on line (see previous posts on how to, instructions in English, etc), write down the number you are given, take that it to migracion...I assume you will do it in La Paz...with photos, last three bank statements (have NEVER had to have that translated), a letter of intent, in Spanish (the Loreto office gives you a sample one that you just retype and change the name on)
they will give you a 'general info' form that you fill in in Spanish (simple, weight in kilos, height in meters, etc). they will send you to the bank with the correct forms. take the receipt back, along with two copies of it. smile. check on line to see when it is done...they will give you a form with site, id number and password. pick it up when it's ready.
easy peasy.
should be around 1200 pesos for the FM3. no reason to pay anyone to do it for you unless you just want to go that route. DIY is a good experience, you will learn lots, and the next year, and the next year, and the next year you will become an expert. of course the rules will change off and on and with no explanation, but someone on BajaNomads will post the latest changes.
