Jesus Gomez had been married to a woman enveloped in jealousy...he endured the snapping accusations day and night and since a good part of the meager
family income was derived from his late night gigs as a clarinetist in the local banda...it became a growing headache....
He tried to soothe his raging wife..she would not listen. The women of Sinaloa are possibly the most beautiful in Mexico but with this gift often
comes a viscious tongue that can make most men long for a short squat little mouse of a wife who would serve a plate of beans without a side of
spitting insults.
So Don Jesus did something rare for a man of his time...he walked away from his headache leaving a little boy to endure the b-tch.
He poured all his shame into the clarinet playing any and all opportunity....even trudging up into the mountains above Guasave... into areas most
musicos would turn down because the getting there would take double the time as the job...
Standing with his ragtag banda at another far flung rancho, tuning up for a wedding he spotted a timida..a shy young girl weaving in and out of the
gathering quietly serving the guests...he was struck how pretty and reserved she seemed...how would he talk with her ...she looked all of 15..and her
people would not think highly of a 45 year old musician trying to win her affection..
After the gig he found the girls uncle and collared him ....as it turned out the uncle was tired of having to provide for his wayward sisters daughter
and was more then agreeable in setting up the two.
Her name was Ingracia...the only daughter of a wild woman and a rambling vaquero. She had not inherited the itchiness of her parents..that trait would
emerge in the next generation...she was calm and taken to doing her chores with tranquil diligence.
When her uncle called her over she thought it was for more pulque ..fermented maguey plant...but instead in his rough language he indicated Don Jesus
or as he was commonly called Chuey would care to take her to Culiacan to see the sights ..of course she would be welcome to bring her cousin for
company ....she vacantly nodded..yes of course that would be fine.
Ingracia, was and is a woman who goes along to get along...it is not her trait to complain...she has infinite peace in whatever direction she takes
it will work out.
And so it went with Chuey they never married as he was never oficially divorced and began to populate Colonia Texas in Los Mochis with nine kids
I would say
