Bringing a car into MX

We need to bring our car to La Paz. I understand that only legal owner can drive it, but I thought that it can be transported by a third party (trailer ed). Company in TJ tells me it can't be done.

Bit confusing...Help!

If it's a currently registered, US plated car, the driver, anybody, has to have a good US license.
A notarized letter of permission is probably another requirment should something happen.

oooops....just noticed your reference to, "trailered." That could present a problem. A car on a trailer, unless it's a race car, will be turned back at the border. Drive it through, then put it on the trailer and know what insurance to buy. That could be complicated.

C-Urchin, if you haven't already, try sending a U2U to djh....he posts looking for vehicles to personally deliver as far south as Loreto at least once a year.

I towed a vehicle from Long Beach to La Paz on a tow dolly for friends. The pink slip was signed over to me & once it got to La Paz, I signed it back over to them & they did the official importation process. But that was in 2003, so legalities could have changed. Keep researching, you'll find a way to make it happen if you chose not to drive it yourself.

I think we will drive it ourselves, much easier. Can also bring some needed items.

I had a car delivered in TS by a friend. Just put his name on the insurance as other driver. No problem anywhere as long as he/she has a valid drivers license.

driving to La Paz from the border

I am a bit paranoid about the Zona Frontera. We will fly a friend from La Paz (MX friend) to TJ, then pick him up there at about 9:30AM, then getting going to use all day light possible. We plan to drive in daylight only on the main road. Any tips about where to stop? How to structure this journey? What to watch for and where?

I know a lot of Nomads do this quite often. Your advice is most appreciated.:)
