I came across some fun photos of some of our Baja trips. These in particular I found interesting ~




This is Bobo standing in a cave in a "secret spot" on Bahia Falso San Quintin, in 2007.




Here she is in the same cave, now covered with sand, in 2008.

I'm curious to see the difference in this spot today.

I find it fascinating how quickly the landscape changes along the coast. Does anyone else have any pictures of places with drastic changes in such a short period of time?

This isn't over just one year as in your pictures but it is a Baja "Then and Now" over a 100 year span.

fixtrauma ~ great pictures. I love to see the way that people have changed their landscape, but I must tell you, I am absolutely fascinated by the way Mother Nature does it.

I vaguely recall the two beach days that I posted, but looking back at the photos I am amazed!! There is literally a 6 foot difference in the level of the beach. And the most amazing part is that this occurred in just under a year. Bobo was 1 year and 6 months old in the first picture, and the second one she was 2 years and 3 months. I can't wait to visit again soon so that I can see whether the sand has been washed back out or more has come in.

kind of makes you wonder what else is hiding under all that sand!!

Sand movement is due to currents. Currents are influenced by swell direction. Swell direction are due to storms and storms are influenced by the weather patterns (winter summer).

(ie) I don't think it is so much from one year to the next, but summer versus winter. Was one pict taken in summer and another in winter?

Very cute pict BTW, it is exciting to be naked on a secluded beach in Mexico :biggrin:

the typical cycle is beaches accumulate sediment in summer (small wave action), lose sediment in winter (large wave action), but each beach can vary.

Yup, instead of watching Algore movies, I actually GO to the beach... the same beach for over 30 years... and it is still there... the salt flats that are flooded by only the highest tides... are STILL only flooded by the highest tides... Concrete pads (that don't rise and fall) are still the same elevation above sea level... and this is throughout Baja (and the world)... talking about measurable change greater than the length of a cigarette.

I know it serves your masters to spread fear, create laws, raise taxes, restrict freedom... on the lie of man made climate change. I use common sense and personal observation and am not trying to scare anyone or take their rights away.

Beach erosion happens all the time... and it eats up property or it builds up sand... but the level of the ocean is unchanged... and in a place that has a 20 foot daily rise and fall in sea level... the length of a cigarette is unchanged!

As the world warms, sea levels could easily rise three to six feet this century. But increases will vary widely by region, with prevailing winds, powerful ocean currents, and even the gravitational pull of the polar ice sheets determining whether some coastal areas will be inundated while others stay dry.

Seriously, DK? Global warming is a joke, because it has not yet directly affected your life? That surprises me-hope you at least err on the side of caution.
