San Felipe CODE race & vacation

Another awesome trip to San Felipe is in the memory books..This race I brought the family and a few other families to join in on the fun and action. In addition to my co-rider (Edgar Espinoza) his family a friends. Accommodations were at the hotel Cortez with the bungalows on the beach, big palaps, barefoot bar and restaurant. I received a racer discount and they gave us the rooms for $75 a night. I think in total we were 5 rooms deep and it was fun with such a big group of mixed adults and tons of kids.

We arrived Friday afternoon and the crew immediately headed to town for tacos and drinks. I stayed behind for registration and contingency procedures. Hooking up with my co-rider we discussed race plans and visual checks..Saturday morning came way too soon but I was up strapping on my boots and gearing up for the start of the race at 6:30 am. The race went okay for us, only problem was my co-rider crashed very hard and was down for five minutes .He was able to continue on. When he got back on the motorcycle he was as fast as the wind and made up for his down time. We ended up in third place as the checkered flag signaled the end of a very rough and hard San Felipe course.

Sunday we went to the awards ceremony held at the famous Rockodile bar. They called my name and Juan Carlos(my 6 yr old son) escorted his dad to receive the trophy. Pictures and interview were conducted and it was a special moment for the kids and families to see their dads as some sort of sports hero for a few minutes.

Now that the race was over it was time to get back to vacation. The kids played on the beach for hours never a bored moment. We tried the banana boat ride and were dumped off a few times left to float in the sea of cortez to catch our breaths. Juan Pablo(12 yr old son) took a try at riding the mechanical bull at one of the bars. We ate a ton of good food both on the beach, tacos stands and the best restaurants San Felipe had to offer. Karla(wife) gave the beach vendors plenty of action trying on all the sunglasses and jewelry they had to offer. The weather was mid 80's and the water temp was about 67 (guess).

The road conditions were good,2 detours on the way down and none on the way back home. There were some tourist in town but not close to full. This weekend should be packed. We noticed a bigger military pressence in town then ever before, on the beach and in the water. The navy patrolled the beaches in UTV'S, and by boat. There were also army trucks with soilders in town and on the streets.
