Lucy goes to the ocean for a camping trip.

We took a quick camping trip up north a bit near Fort Ross.

Pretty good coastal camping (for it being in California)








We found enough firewood on the beach for a nice fire each night.

Actually, it was a pallet that we found washed up on the shore. I had to work like heck to tear it apart, but it was worth it for the kindling. Ocean Cove is a private campground, so there wasn't any fences to need to bust through.

Jeeeezo..yeah. Some of those skids are put together with screw-nails. Really hard to seperate. [I knew it wasn't a farmers fence. Jes kiddin']

Ocean Cove!
What a great spot for family camping. It's a blast for the kids at night....running to camp to camp. One of the few places that has a launch ramp for small boat.


Did you like trying to cross the Pacific Highway to get into the store? Deadly!

We love that part of California. Most tourists go there in the summer but there is great mushroom gathering under the pines in November.

I don't know what they were thinking when they made that store across the street on a curve like that. They have a nice, big building on the other side of the street that would make a great camp store/headquarters. I had pretty much written California coastal camping off because the govt. campgrounds either have you camping far away from the beach, or they put in a flat, ugly parking lot, so you camp right on the asphalt. Plus, the good spots are always reserved months ahead of time. Ocean Cove is great, and at $20 per night, it's $15 cheaper than the $35 state campgrounds. I did get to try some abalone this trip which takes one more thing off my bucket list. There were no rangers making you feel patrolled. All in all, it was a very nice getaway.

We have gone here for 15 years. They have primitive sites as well as RV. Look up this place on the map...you'll see that the area offers HUNDREDS of points to go to.

You are right....Govt campsites are a joke.....Salt Point being on top of the list.
