Good to see San Felipe doing well this week end

mcfez - 4-23-2011 at 05:11 PM

Cars have been arriving in town from Mexicali at around 700/hour this morning and we are on course to have more than 60,000 visitors over the course of the weekend.

Bout time there was some good news about Baja. How's your town looking?

Just wondering where the number 60,000 came from? How was it measured.

Are some from Ensenada (vice Mexicali)

SF site claims 300 Mexicali Cops will be on hand In
SF for the weekend, along with extra ambulances,
combined with many under the influence drivers.
I always wanted to go this weekend for some
total cultural immersion

The main origins of the visitors are Mexicali, Tijuana, and Ensenada, with a few coming from USA.

Loads here in Rosarito as well-lots of places full up-it is ALL good!

DENNIS - 4-23-2011 at 06:24 PM

Mexicans on the move for the most part. The traffic by my place was record heavy going to the Buf. Mostly Baja plates, but not all.
Things, not sure exactly what, are improving if people out spending money can be used as an indicator.
My fingers and a couple of other things are crossed.

Regional Topics, the San Felipe Economy and more.....

Easter Saturday 23 April 2011

A welcome infusion of tourism into the town! I am impressed with how well the authorities have organized the infrastructure. The police are at the ready, ambulances come when summoned and even the fire department is ready to respond to untoward events such as "neutralizing" a swarm of bees. Of course, the center of town is clogged and it can be unnerving for a casual visitor to wander into the fray - even if they can find a place to park. Tents are everywhere and the tourism department tells me that hotel occupancy is at 100% (I suspect it is even above that as there are condominiums with 30 people in them). Along the Malecon the prohibition on the consumption of beer has been temporarily suspended and this has been received as a very popular move for the holiday. It also reflects the reality that we do not have enough lock-up space to house the violators.

Cars have been arriving in town from Mexicali at around 700/hour this morning and we are on course to have more than 60,000 visitors over the course of the weekend. No serious incidents have been reported.

Out on the bay beaches it is low tide (noon) and there are people enjoying the pleasant temperatures (75 F in the shade with easterly breezes at 12 m.p.h., water at 72F). Here is a short movie that shows the beach scene:

our village LA BOCANA (when the population is 1200, this is not really a town, is it ???) is still absolutely deserted. our house was packed to the brim with 29 peoplesssssssss, but la bocana is like a ghost town. everyone leaves to visit family in san ignacio. la paz, los cabos.

Hey McCensus

Did you come down for the weekend?

I didn't see you at Pete's

We came back today due to the concern at the Miltary Check Point.

Left at about 4pm and it was still about a 30 min wait.

We have SENTRI so it was simple to get across the border.

We didn't think it was as busy this year as last?

My wife commented on this several times. Also, mi amigo, Pe'pe told me that there has been 3 deaths in the past few weeks from auto accidents. One at the dunes.

Anyway the weather was great for the short time we were here.

About 20,000 less than previous years...but 60k is great for the town's business owners. The death at the dunes was a off road car .......getting killed at the dunes is a hard thing to do...in a car.

Didnt come down......all the rains of the previous months back logged work here at the farm and business. However....I will be down there much more often starting in 6 months....I have simi retired :-)

You know...the old man at Pete's died. I'll miss that cigar chomper....

Will these 300 cops concentrate on extorting just Gringos or will this be an equal opportunity event.:?:

bajalou - 4-24-2011 at 08:47 AM
